This is in response to the letter from Chief Warrant Officer 2 Gerald Kuruc [“Branch on ACU: 2 views,” Feb. 9]. Whichever branch he is in, there will be very few days that he damages his uniform as much as the enlisted soldiers he leads.
The enlisted soldier is where the oil meets the mechanic, the dirt meets the grunt and the grease meets the cook. I know that there are officers out there who destroy uniforms, but a majority of damaged Army Combat Uniforms are worn by enlisted.
This fact alone should entitle them to an annual allowance for the upkeep. I am all for every soldier, officer and enlisted alike, being entitled to allowances for maintaining a professional appearance. But to use something as trivial as branch insignia as a trade-off — I think we are all better than that.
