Sorry i know that since i've been on the Forum just about all my posts have been questions I'm just trying to figure stuff out...

I got a call from a Army Recruiter i've been talking to for the last couple of weeks, and he said after the 20th of march you cannot join the Army with a GED, I looked online and cannot find any information about this. So i guess my question is, is this true or is he just trying to get me to join? Also if its true is there routes around it? (Like the Air Force you can get a certain amount of College credits and you can join)

Thank you

Do not know much about the Army, but I cannot imagine why they would raise their education standards when they are lowering their weight standards to broaden the pool of possible recruits... Your best option is to look up another recruiter online and call them, like one in a nearby city.

Actually with the downturn in the economy, none of the service components are having much trouble meeting their goals. The Army may very well be tightening up what they will and will not take again. My question would be what did you score on the ASVAB. Another thing to consider is that your Recruiter might just be trying to put some pressure on you to get you in FAST before you change your mind.

Nope. Would have either a) heard about it through the Army grapevine or b) read about it in the Army Times.

The fact is the Army is still losing Soldiers in this can of worms we call a war. As such, it's affecting our numbers greatly. For instance, the Army can't seem to get enough Warrant Officers due to the fact that people keep ETSing, retiring, or getting chaptered for some reason or another. Not to mention the fact that where I work, we end up medically retiring over half the Soldiers that arrive here for treatment due to, survey says....

PTSD.

This war has caused a lot of damage. So the struggle to keep up with the losses will remain until they no longer need us in Afghanistan or where ever. Then the inevitable draw down (which happens a lot during a democratic administration) will take place. Until then..

I think that recruiter was utilizing a sales tactic to get you in ASAP. I'm friends with three recruiters though; I could always ask them to be certain.

Well, I could see them doing this (but I agree with Aces, we would have heard about it) because they may be preparing for significant budget cuts and with an excess of recruitment due to the recession, they may be trying to narrow the playing field.

Those were my thoughts exactly, but i've had really bad luck with recruiters. It seems like most of the questions i ask them over the phone they either don't know or give me an answer that half way explains my question... I'm waiting for the Air Force and a 2nd Army recruiter too call me back right now lol

Thats why i was wondering how much truth there was too his statements, and his entire office did downplay the Air Force a lot. Pretty much just wanted me not too look into my options I think... but i would rather be safe then sorry and ask a bunch of questions lol

Thats awesome info! Thank you, i couldn't get anybody on the phone too even give me a decent answer I even asked what the possibility's were that it's true they didn't want to answer that either

Very true all good points... I think that after all of this the recruiter was lying too me... I don't see anything online about it and a different recruiter station hasn't heard of it and told me he would call me back with further information.

Thanks for the responses and please if you hear anything else please post it thank you and sorry for all the questions. Hopefully I'll be contributing to the forum instead of just asking questions soon!

One last thing this forum/website is awesome, single handedly one of the best sources for information and everybody seems pretty cool

And there is your answer. They are scared you are going to change your mind and go AF. BTW, going to his station commander is not a brilliant idea. It won't change anything. All it will do is make them to a little song and dance to make you think that he got into trouble when he really won't.

I'm a Navy Classifier. I can't speak for the Army, but I know that in the Navy, there are limitations on how many Tier II's (which is what you are) and Tier III's (those who dropped out without getting their GED) that we can take. As well, for much of the year, we can't take any - but they'll open and close it throughout the year.

So your recruiter may not be lying to you - but he's also not telling you two things:

1. They'll eventually open it up for Tier II's later, and
2. If you complete 15 non-remedial college credits, then you will become a Tier I (in other words, for military entrance purposes, you'll be the same as someone who completed their high school).

I wouldn't do that anyway... I know his job sucks and he isn't putting a gun to my head to sign up or anything lol...

Well right now i can join the army with a ASVAB score of 50 or above, but i got a call from a recruiter I've been talking to saying that i cannot join with a GED after i think he said march 20th maybe 30th? But i got a call back from a different recruiter and he said he hasn't heard of them changing it.
