“0peration infiltrate army group”

On behalf of military girlfriends every

I know military has a secrete conspiracy to mess up relationship e.g. longer deployments but I have decided to inveterate your army group to send a message. Girl’s love it when you message them or call them no matter how short even if don’t know what to say just hi how are you. We just really want more messages to know your all ok but we don’t want to say so try not message you boys so much and say other stuff but we girls really worry about guys. If you guys only knew how much we worry. Best of luck to all of you. Mission completed operation invaltre army group” thanks for reading this message and pass it along to all the boys and let them it was “travel girl” who passed so if ever hear the story i will smile to myself secretly know it was a success. Stay save. And to the army girl I know you’re out there too.

Sincerely yours truly

Ok,

Ahhh. Mel explained it to me. I get it now. What she is trying to say is, guys don't communicate enough and she wishes they did. Wow! What a complex problem. I am sure it is only Army guys and this post will cure all of us guys of that! :-) Seriously TravelGirl. Now that Mel explained it, I can see what you were trying to do but you REALLY need to review before you post so it makes sense. Your heart was in the right place though (according to Mel).

Is this a blend of English and some other language such as Romanian or possibly Icelandic?

I get exactly what she is saying. I dont know if Travel is from the US or Germany or where ever. But yes us army Girlfriends do wish you would call us or just simply check in more often. You may think you are spareing our feelings by not saying anything for long streches of time, but no it only makes our anxieties at home worse.

Ok yes I admit my spelling is awful but all the words are there and in the correct order. :-p

I agree with Travel Girl. Being in a very similar circumstance as her, I know exactly what she's going through and why she wrote this. I can't even imagine what these soldiers are going though and what they are thinking or feeling. I do understand what T.G. is feeling. It's tough, but I by no means want to devalue what these brave soldiers are doing over there and what they're risking to defend this country.

I think it's also very difficult because it is impossible to vent to our friends because they don't understand AT ALL what it's like to like to be dating a military guy. Our friends believe the soldiers are just being mean by not e-mailing us back, but obviously (I've learned from the brave women here), this isn't the case at all.

I believe T.G. was just trying to reach out to the soldiers asking them to even send a line to let us know they're safe and thinking of us. That's really all that's needed for us to feel better and to know they're safe.

T.G. has a very sweet and kind heart. She definitely got the message across and also generated a conversation which is what I believe was another purpose of this letter.

It is very interesting to get a guy's perspective though. Sometimes, I think I dissect a guy's action or words way too much and think there's a hidden meaning there - I'm almost always wrong. What can I say, I've become way too girlie waiting for him to return. I need to toughen up a little more lol! Grr!

Ring, I hope I've explained T.G.'s letter a little better to you.

T.G., I hope I explained what you were trying to say appropriately and properly. If not, feel free to add.

Hello Everyone

I have noticed almost everyone has commented on the mistakes in my note called “Operation infiltrating the army”. I guess I do desire all the complaints for not double checking my work. No it is not another mix of another language. Yes, English is my first language and only language that I can actually speak. I am learning Spanish but, I am not Hispanic at all. All I was trying to say through the note in a nice way to the guys in the army was to ask them to send more messages their partners because, sometimes it is nice to just receive a message to know they (army guys) are ok. I was just trying to write the note creatively. I was tired when I wrote and a bit upset that I haven’t heard my guy in while. I am sorry for the mistakes in the note. Please try and look past the errors and instead search for the meaning within the message.

Sincerely

Travel Girl

It was nicely worded, T.G.! I get tired too and if I didn't have a dad that was a grammar teacher, I'm not sure I would ever reread my writing! You definitely got the message across in a great way.

In addition, I STILL haven't heard from him and it's been 3-1/2 weeks. Bummer!

Hello Everyone

I dont know why everyone seems so upset with me. It might not do any good at this letter but i thought i was a fun to let the guys know how some of us feel over hear. what i was trying to get everyone how wanted to was to add comments to mine on the guys side if they wanted to say anything to help the guys understand how feel and what runs through our heads.

Hey guys, I got her point. Us women folk try so hard to understand y'all. I know some of you are hardened airforce men and havent had doe like creatures in your midst in years but go easy on the girl, she was just reaching out to you. This is your chance to form a future military wife and if you do it right she might just teach someone else what she learns and the knowledge could spread like wildfire. YOU could be the start of a new breed of woman. OMG think of the possibilities!

tg8,

Tell us a little bit about yourself, you have made a lot of posts here, and some of us really enjoy your posting, as we truly know very little about Travel Girl8. For safety reasons, just leave out the where you live, names and etc, so your identify is not expressed for the crazies to get, if you know what I mean here.

No one is upset. You just don't make any sense. You REALLY need to proofread what you write because what you write makes no sense.

What planet do you live on? Nicely worded? I was told that TG was learning to write in English. Now I find out this is her native language? Doesn't say much for where she went to school. I feel bad you haven't heard from your SO's and have been there done that but c'mon, if you have a point and want to express it to others, make it so people can read it without their heads exploding.

I understand what Travelgirl was trying to do but I agree with Ringjamesa when someone doesn't read their posts and uses words out of context it can cause a problem for those trying to read the post.

The following is not an attempt to humiliate or degrade, but rather to provide clarification.

secrete - To generate and separate (a substance) from cells or bodily fluids
secret - Kept hidden from knowledge or view; concealed.
inveterate - Firmly and long established; deep-rooted: Persisting in an ingrained habit; habitual
infilterate - To enter or take up positions in gradually or surreptitiously, as for purposes of espionage or takeover
hear - to listen
here - a place

syntax is also important for clarity

be nice.
If you want to get the gist of the post read the synopsis that Woody wrote or the one that I wrote. Really, no matter how much was spelled wrong or grammatically wrong she got the point across. She ventured into your 'male' territory to post a sugesstion for you guys. So please Ring be a little kinder :)

I was being nice. I was told she was learning English. Not the case. She DIDN'T get her point across is my point. If no one can understand what you write except people that have previous interaction with you due to the fact that you don't bother to proofread, then you have three choices when posting elsewhere. Either proofread, expect people to say WTF?, or don't post. I can't help it if it was illegible. I ABSOLUTELY disagree that it was "nicely worded." Now that I understand what she was trying to say, I understand her message (to some extent) and why she posted it here but was it well written? No. Did it express her point clearly? No. That is my point. I can deal with some errors-hell I can't spell worth shyte and can understand using your when you mean you're but at least get your point across.....

No?

03-27-2009, 01:07 PM
Haha i get it Ring, i get it. I fold to the master. No her peice was not well worded, although once you get through all the grammatical errors the message was there. And since you read my take on the message, what are your thoughts on it? Getting back to the original reason for posting.

Oh and can you show me how to double quote?

ringjamesa
03-27-2009, 02:55 PM
i have already said that the intent=great execution...terrible. There are several ways to double quote. One is to click on the here at the bottom when you are already replying- (Scroll down and it will tell you in white letters that "this thread has more than x replies. Click here to review the whole thread). that will open a new screen with that thread. You hit quote for the other post you want to quote and cut and paste it where you want it. Or just have another window open and cut and paste from there.

Anyways.... after you are done with the multi-quote process... simply click on the quote button you are responding to and presto, all the posts you milti- quoted will appear in your post....

So, Ring I suppose what I am saying here is that your ability to explain things here, is somewhat similar to your complain of the OP of this post. Very hard to follow, as I was lost and still can’t figure out WTF.

Ring,

I really must say this so i will try very hard to be kind and sincere here.

I'm sad that you are coming down so harshly on TG. She's obviously hurting here and has come to this forum, like me, to get some guidance and helpful suggestions. Since you are pointing out her grammatical errors and doing it in a very unkind manner, you are going to make her turn elsewhere for help. It's really a shame because I know how she feels and I have found everyone to be amazingly kind, compassionate and helpful in their suggestions. I really don't understand why you are coming down so hard on TG. I feel like you may have some very good advice and wish it would be aimed at the message and not her grammar.

Look, I could easily go through your comments and point out grammar errors too, but I choose to just ask you to look beyond the grammar (since this isn't a college writing course) and help guide TG by answering her questions. Unless I'm wrong here, that's the purpose of this forum.

Please, before writing such a harsh response, think about how your actions are going to impact others. Do a good thing and help TG through this hard time in her life. I get where she's coming from so I believe I know how she feels.

It is my opinion that his questioning her post to begin with was because her writing made it very difficult to read. And to be honest, I also found it very difficult to read because of the syntax errors and inappropriate use of vocabulary. Sure she had a good message but it was lost to myself and apparently ringjamesa simply because of it's lack of clarity.

The suggestion was to double check her writing prior to posting. This would asist in her message being understood and could reach more people.

She also posted this in the Army forum. A forum that is normally dominated by men. Not to mention she came over here in an effort to "fix the men of the army". What better way is there to tick off someone you don't know by telling them they are broken?

She cannot nor should she expect to be coddled in this section of the forum. If she is seeking that type of support she should continue posting in the girlfriend section.

And I'm not looking for a disagreement. I'm just stating my opinoin based upon what I've read.

Pick a thread over 1 page long. Any thread at least 2 pages. Pick a post, any post. Hit the quote button, scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Above the posting rules box, there is a solid blue box. In it are white letters that say "This thread has more than 10[# varies depending on how many are on the last page of the thread] replies. Click here to review the whole thread. I used this thread, this post, in testing your above... process.

There is no solid blue box, above the posting of rules box, on my screen. The first post of this thread appears above this box, nothing else. Maybe you have apple computer, I am told their set up is different... who knows...

Why would I ask... honestly, well it started out by my being somewhat sarcastic, you were being critical of the members spelling and syntax abilities. I was simply taking your described method of how to multi-quote and showing you you’re as written process left something to be desired itself. In fact I still cannot multi-quote using your process; sure I can multi quote, just not by following your process.

I have been talking to tg8 through private messages over the last couple weeks, sure we can call the member out on such things, I find when I question things of this nature in question I get better results through private messages, as opposed to publically presenting these questions on the boards. I might also add if one were following her posts it is quite obvious what she is talking about. The MGF section is much different that the balance of the forum, you just don’t see the same type of banner as goes on out there, and there is a reason for it. So, I just think it is more appropriate when such things arise to send a private message to resolve the issue, that’s all. For anyone that thinks I am trying to be the protector for someone or whatever you want to call it forget it, this is just my POV.

It’s all good ring, just saying as respectfully as I know how…. hawk

I do believe the proper terminology would have been "inability" as she, at that time, did not have an understanding of what was wrong with her writing.

Did you use the word "question" twice for emphasis?

The word is spelled publicly.

How does one follow the postings of another individual?

I am unclear of what exactly MGF forum balances.

Did you mean to use the word banner in lieu of banter?

"Out" where?

What is the reason?

What is private messaging?

"That" should be changed to "who" as you are talking about people. You could have used the word "that" following the word thinks.

You may also want to consider these sites on semicolon usage (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_commacomp.html) and comma usage (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_comma.html). I know they have come in handy for me in the past.

I'm not trying to upset anyone. I just find the whole situation kind of amusing. I understand that this is a forum, and errors do occur when one is typing rapidly. But, typos are a vastly different genre than syntax errors. Without proper syntax, the entire meaning of a post can be lost.

No harm, no foul.

Alright guys, we get the point. However, I believe one should be judged by one's intentions, not necessarily one's spelling:)
As for the chicks/chicklets out there, read "On Combat" by Lt. Col Dave Grossman/Loren W. Christensen before you start complaining about how your SO doesn't want to canoodle in a combat zone.
This is meant to be taken as friendly advice. Educate yourselves!

I wish you all would play together like nice boys and girls. I admit that I typically do not tolerate numerous grammatical errors. However, we have to remember that this is a public forum that will attract very different people with various educational backgrounds. Not everyone has written a thesis and there certainly is not a grammar or spell check function when you post on this forum. Yeah it was hard to understand at first, but I eventually got the gist of the initial post. Travel's heart was in the right place and she was simply reaching out to the Army boys...that's all. As someone mentioned earlier, the MGF's are here for support during difficult times and we should be respectful of everyone. Geez, I think you've scared the poor girl away.

A Private Message is basically sending an email to an individual or a small group of members on the forum. This is the preferred way to communicate when OPSEC or PERSEC needs to be broken. As Hawk mentioned, it is also a nicer way to engage with another member rather than ridiculing them out in public. When you see a member's name, hit the left mouse click over the name. It will allow you to check out that member's public profile or to send them a private message or PM. Hope that helped.

Did you mean to use the word banner in lieu of banter?
Yup, sure did….:D :D

"Out" where?
“Out” there.

What is the reason?
If I told you I would have to kill you… lol

What is private messaging?
It was described in the community guidelines you agreed to when you joined the forum, you may wish to review these guidelines. Regardless, private messaging is a manner in which members can communicate back and forth (my words) as copied from the community guidelines… Private Messages
Important word here is private. Private means not for public consumption and it's just common courtesy not to post the contents of private messages on the public boards.

"That" should be changed to "who" as you are talking about people. You could have used the word "that" following the word thinks.
Yep, it sure could…. :)

You may also want to consider these sites on semicolon usage (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_commacomp.html) and comma usage (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_comma.html). I know they have come in handy for me in the past.
I appreciate your respect for the proper usage of our English language and will take a better stab at it in the future.

I'm not trying to upset anyone.
Very seldom do I EVER use the word “try”, you either do it or you don’t!

I just find the whole situation kind of amusing. I understand that this is a forum, and errors do occur when one is typing rapidly. But, typos are a vastly different genre than syntax errors. Without proper syntax, the entire meaning of a post can be lost.
I know, I’m laughing too...:( :( . Not so sure about tg8, I'm afraid she has been scared off, really sad...

No harm, no foul.
Exactly my point! Apparently… you are so wrapped up in the details you missed the forest for those darn pesky trees.
Criticism such as this (especially in introduction posts or with new members) … can… and does drive off members, exactly what do we accomplish by pointing out in public the weak points of a members posts (spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation w/e) it certainly does nothing for our creditability… in fact IMHO… it makes us look just ridiculous, such was my suggestion for using the private message.. if we are so adamant about showing the member their faults.

This young lady entered this forum looking for understanding and support. What did we throw in her face! I’ll leave it up to you to decide. Her final message was this, hey guys, drop us a line once in awhile letting us know you are safe, and btw… we love and miss ya!

I do appreciate your edit of my post, no excuses, I am absolutely terrible when it comes to spelling, and yes my punctuation really sucks as well, hell, I had to look up the word syntax a couple months ago just to make sure I fully understood what it meant…

I stated several times that her intention was admirable. I also stated that as it was written it was very difficult to ascertain meaning. There is absolutely nothing wrong with revising a piece to provide clarity for the readers. Writers, even professionals, do it all the time.

Ow sweet Jesus did some one call a the grammar police??? I'm getting my bee bee gun:eek:  (notice I didn't say automatic weapon? to violent for public forum!) Come on quit being such a jerk, if you cant read it, take a hint, it ain't for your complicated ass, move on! This forum is for 13 and up so the narcissistic, paranoid, middle aged grammar, spelling police please get back in your hole and leave the young uns alone. As one of my favorite semi - non spellers so eloquently stated "its the internet stupid who gives a S#$%".

hawk, my dear friend, sorry your sweet girl got hurt, there has always gotta be someone that will knock a baby on their ass for no reason. Just the way the internet works sometimes. If you talk to her tell her she is always welcome and her spelling is just fine for me, so post away.

When she needs a professional I am sure she will ask for one, probably wont be you! I had absolutely no problem ascertaining her meaning and was moved by it so I am assuming you must be struggling with narcissism since you feel your ability to perceive is equated to "everybody" but none the less you are mistaken and all you accomplished was embarrassing her and losing a poster to your silly fantasy, that you are Military Times grammar or spelling police.

There is everything wrong with you revising her statement. First it was her statement and open for debate or comment on topic. Anything after that is personal.

Are you done with the personal criticism?

On a forum, the post is always open for review. The post is what will be addressed. Therefore it is necessary that the post is clear and concise to avoid confusion. If the post lacks clarity, or course it will be questioned to ensure understanding. The way the post was worded it was very difficult to extrapolate meaning. If you understood the message as the post was written, it simply means that this style of writing is similar to your own.

As stated before, after clarification, her message to state her position on communication is understandable. My statements were not in regard to her as a person, but to the post.

Travel Girl

TG,

Thank you for being brave enough to post a request in such an emotional and trying time for you.

Temp,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have never heard of this book and am quite interesting in read. Thank you again for sharing. Please feel free to keep the recommendations coming. ;)

(((cough cough )))) BS - Post topics are open for review not the persons ability to post - Yes it is similar to my style (personal cut) so as our dear Alice says if you are not into the thread then move along!!! I suspect you wont though as I definitely know your style and since you brought up clarity I don't know exactly why you would change your screen name if your not gonna change your behavior?????

While a cat fight might be interesting for those in the Army thread... I'm going to turn it back to the topic at hand and ask if there are any more takers, like Temp, who can offer resources, educational materials and/or real life scenarios and experiences to help family, friends and loved ones to cope during times of pre-deployment, deployment or post-deployment.

No doubt, communication plays a big part. But, understanding the communication, lack thereof, or intent behind it all is just as important.

Thank you again to those who do or have served the US Armed Forces! :D

To get back to the beginning, I recommend---Queensryche's American Soldier album. However, girls, don't listen to it if your makeup can't run at that time, and have a box of kleenex handy.
Book-wise, try Courage After Fire by Keith Armstrong/Suzanne Best/ Paula Domenici and, if you want to know more about the war itself, try Learning To Eat Soup With A Knife by John A. Nagl. This book talks about Vietnam and Malaya, but the lessons are applicable to our current conflicts.
Happy Learning!

I'm not so sure why people decided it was appropriate to jump on a MGF who was merely trying to reach out to some soldiers.... I don't really care what grammatical reason you have, it was just wrong; if you really had that much of an issue with it, you should have sent her a Private Message. Attempting to ridicule someone who is clearly going through a difficult time is just uncalled for.

I've witnessed plenty of soldiers make no sense/not be able to spell/not be able to communicate well because he isn't 'okay.' Whether he's sad, angry, depressed... doesn't give me the right to attack him.

Travel Girl, I commend you and agree with your point! Guys, we get you're deployed; we get the phone lines may be long; we get that the computer lines may be long; we understand all of that - which is why we don't expect a three hour long phone call, or the ability to talk online for an hour. We know. We deal with it - all TG is trying to say is, stand on that line to get some time to talk to your GF. You are going through a difficult time, but so is your GF. It's not easy to go on every, single day as if everything is okay when you spend a week not talking to your significant other. Your GF would rather have 3 minutes than nothing at all.

I hope this message gets through to at least some of you guys out there!

To get back to the subject, try "For Men Only" and "For Women Only" by Shaunti and Jeff Feldhahn!!! Men's and women's hard drives are so different, so wonder the software has a hard time running!!!

Hello Everyone
I would like to say to everyone who has been criticizing me for months now to get on with your lives. You have all been going on and on about this for months and months. I made some mistakes when I was tired, so what I am not perfect. I don’t even go on this site anymore because I have been criticized so much for a long period of time. So leave me alone and stop bugging me about this topic. For those of you who followed my story I would like to add that he came back to me. We are now in a serious relationship and he got out of the army to spend more time with me and to work on his new career. I get to see him at least once a week now. For those of you who were helpful to me thank you for your help.

My post was in no way meant to sound like I was criticizing you! I think you made a good point with this subject, which is why I wanted to resurrect it.

I am glad things are working out for you!
