The 4,000 soldiers from the North Carolina National Guard’s 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team will be honored April 14 before they deploy to Iraq.

Army Secretary Pete Geren, Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey and Air Force Gen. Craig McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau, are expected to attend the event in Fayetteville, N.C.

The soldiers returned recently from training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., and are expected to depart for Iraq in the days following the April 14 ceremony. This will be the second time the brigade has deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 30th HBCT’s first OIF deployment was in 2004.
