I'm having a difficult time figuring out just what I need to do to prepare myself for boot camp, both diet wise and physical preperation. I don' ship out until October 13th, so I want to be sure i'm in good shape before I leave.

If it helps any i'm 19, female, about 5'2" and weigh around 125lbs. I'm also a vegetarian(but do eat seafood.)

I did my first IST a couple days ago. I did the 1.5 mile run in 12minutes, 84 crunches in two minutes, and only did the flexed arm hang for 1 minute 10 seconds. I know I can improve on all of them.

I'v also got a gym membership, so I have plenty of access to workout equipment, I just don't know which ones I need to focus most on.

What sort of routine did the rest of you set for yourselfs prior to shipping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jessica,
My son just graduated BMT the end of October.
What he did was he jogged and jogged.
He also had a gym membership. He used the treadmill, he used the machines for weight training. He also did pushups and crunches every workout. Work on your run time. When he got there his run time for between 9-10 minutes and he got it down under 9 minutes and was awarded off base town pass at Graduation for having a good run time. Was the fastest out of 2 Flights.

Good luck!!!

Work on your run and your crunches. Flutter kicks, doing inclined crunches with weight on your stomach and working with an exercise ball are probably the best things you can do to improve your crunches. Another thing you could do is about 4 months before you ship do situps everyday. Start with 25 and increase the number by two everyday. Once you can get 75 situps, 100 crunches in two minutes is nothing. Your arm hang is perfect, you only have to hang for 70 seconeds and if you stay up there longer they'll just kick you off the bar. But one thing you can do to maintain your time is assisted pullups. Find a pullup bar and tie one of those exercise bands around it. Then put your foot in the other end and do some pullups. Do as many as you can for 3 sets.

Run everyday. Here's what I do:
M-W-F: 4-5 miles
T-TH: SPRINTS 2x800, 2x400, 2x200, 2x100 (repeat 3 times) (every other week boots and utes)
SA: ELIPTICAL:1 HOUR
SU: REST

As far as your diet goes, I would get used to eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, lots of pasta, and salad because that's basically all you have anyways. I still to this day cannot eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because I ate one everyday at Parris Island.

I would get yourself used to eating meat. You won't have time in boot to care or have a good diet plan. You want to be used to red meat so you don't get all f-ed up eating it there for the first time.

Jessica,

when my son went to marine boot camp in 02 he was running all the time. remember you have to pass the 3 mill run. learn to do as many sit ups as you can stand. flex hang has to get better. When he ran FIANL PRT for boot camp he ran it in 13:40. he ran and ran and ran. he was at the base gyn all the time working weights. one word of advice. what ever the Female DI's tell you to do it quick and and without question and effeciently. that is what they are looking for give them ey ey man. yes mam. remember as a female marine you will be held to a higher standard. the first day after meps you will fly into charleston then arrive at parris island close to midniught. ,you will get 3 mins to call yur family that you have arrived and that is all the DI's stand right there as you call. once you get off the bus you will be out on the yellow foot prints and given the speech by the recieiving DI. DO exactly what he or she says. theywill have you doing your incoming paper work you probably get to bed maybe at 0300 then up by 0500 this is only the beginning. GOOD LUCK AND SEMPER FI!

Women boot camp is cake especially since you have weak ass standards. Flexed Arm Hang WTF? You guys should do pull ups. Your 3mile run time should be 18 mins not 21.

She doesn't need to hear this.

She came hear for advice, not condescending opinions. You should be congratuating her on your choose of profession, not bashing her for policies she has no control of.
