Good afternoon. I have a question that I am trying to get answered. I am waiting to hear back from someone at the Army recruiting station. So I figured I would ask here. Does anyone know the how my chances would be to get in the Army with some hearing loss in my right ear? I was rejected form the Marines for this. But I have been told that people with the same issue have gone into other branchs of service. I really just want to serve my country. Thanks in advance guys!

It wasn't that the USMC DQ'd you MEPS did. If MEPS DQ'd you, you are DQ'd for everyone until you can provide justification as to why you should be allowed in (hearing test from a civ dr. etc...). Again, it isn't a service thing, it is a MEPS thing. If MEPS qualifys you and you are not eligible for certian jobs, that is a different thing altogether-that is the individual service standards. You are trying to get past the DoD standard.... Good luck.

Ringjames, I can understand what you are saying about this. However, I was denied a BuMED waiver, which is just the Navy and Marine Corps doctors. MEPS sent me for a consult and recommended a waiver for me. I spoke with an Army recruiter last night and explained my situation to him. He told me that I could indeed try to enlist for the Army as they have a different medical review process. He actually sounded somewhat upbeat about my chances, but who knows. I am going to talk with a recruiter face to face shortly to get some more info.

Ok. That is cool. Once the Army does a SPF change, they kinda have to do a waiver. I know for the AF, if MEPS requests a waiver, we have to run it. Doesn't mean it will be approved but we have to run it.

You can see if the Army will do a medical waiver for your hearing this can take about 30 days, I am a retired 1SG who spent 18 years in recruiting and after retiring I worked as a contractor for 5 years for USAREC. Just tell your Army recruiter to pull your meds from MEPS and send them to USAREC.
