I have a bunch of questions.
I am a few months from my 35th birthday, so I know I need to work fast. I am a high school teacher with a B.A. in French and History and an M.Ed. I'm interested in joining the air force reserve basically as an opportunity to expand my horizon, see the world a little, and provide my kids with some money to go to school some day with the G.I. Bill.
Anyway here goes some questions.
1. Is there any way other than be going into Law or Medicine to go directly to OTS or OCS?
2. If not, how long would I have to go enlisted before I could apply for a commission?
3. With my education, what rank would I be in the Air Force?
4. How difficult is it to move from enlisted to commissioned?
5. I live about an hour and a half from Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, how can I find out what jobs or training is available to ensure that work at that base?
I would appreciate answers to any of my questions.
Thanks

Uhm, If you are serious you need to talk to a recruiter. But from my personal experience, if you had a degree in mathematics/physics/engineering, you would stand a better chance. As far as assignments to a particular base, it’s usually “needs of the AF”, at least active duty wise, but you can submit to them where you would prefer to go, good luck

In a nutshell, you will need to go to afreserve, com, or 1-800-257-1212 and contact a recruiter ASAP. I am a reserve recruiter, if Nellis is your closest base to your house or if that is where you want to go that is where you will go in most cases. As far as rank if you come in on the enlisted side of the house you will come in at the rank of E-3 and once you complete BMTS and Tech school and get commanders approval you could get E-4. On the officer side of the house I would say that you keep your eye on this subject for a RINGJAMESA poster, I know he is a reserve recruiter and i believe he is an officer recruiter. In all reality, imeadows, there is a huge amount of info to get and you want to get with a recruiter ASAP. The needs of the AF does apply to active duty assignments. Good luck and get moving! lol

Wow! ?Not sure how I missed this one.
1. Yes but you are not eligible unless you want to be a chaplain. BTW, all officer candidates go straight to OTS unless they are an Academy Grad or ROTC. It think you mean COT.
2. Never happen unless you are a Dr. (medical) or a Chaplain (Catholic). 35 is the max age for commissioning.
3. You should come in at as E-3. Upon completion of Technical Training you can be promoted to E-4.
4. Not that difficult but for you it will probably be impossible.
5. Contact a Recruiter.
