I am in the process of having my criminal waiver approved by the commander. Next week actually. it has already been approved by my recruiters boss and he said it looks worse than what it is and its not a big deal. THEN that is when he asked what field I was looking at. I tol dhim SF (security Forces) and he told me I wouldnt be able to be a cop because of the waiver. I dont want to call him a liar but I dont believe him. He then went on to tell me that he could offer me f-16 avionics or something else though when it came time. I told him that would be fine but my question is why would I be allowed to work on these jets but not be allowed to guard them or technically be in the AF infantry as the SF have become more of that than a real police force. No offense but this is how I feel about it. I have nothing but respect for any career field but I fe llke the recruiters boss has a job in mind already that maybe he cant get someone else to take but feels he can tell me to take it because I have this waiver over my head. I have worked very very ahrd to get in this far and just dont want to press the issue and piss anyone off considering the waiver. Here is waht the waiver is for.....
Disorderly conduct ](fighting) 5 years ago. plea to 120 days non reporting probation.... was actually a self defense issue more than a fight. but it is what it is.
criminal Mischeif 5 years ago(Dropped and came from the same incident)
Domestic battery and domestic violence from 5 years ago which were dropped because my ex lied about what really happened. Awesome I get to deal with it forever though. :) oh well, again it is what it is. Never hit a woman in my entire life....
Crappy driving record but nothing for the past 4 years..
Credit is decent, one small medical collections (they havent ran credit yet though)
I am a HS grad so that cant be the issue.
So what I am saying is this. I am going to be 25 years old and all of these things happened before 21 years old. Is it such a big issue to them that they can approve a waiver but wont let me go into Security Forces?

Yep. And you can NEVER go into SF. NEVER. You can join the AF in another career field but one of the qualifications for SF is;
"Never been convicted by a civilian court of a Category 1, 2, or 3 offense, nor exceeded the accepted number of Category 4 offenses. Category 3 and 4 traffic offenses alone are not disqualifying. NOTE: Categories of offenses are described and listed in AFI 36-2002, Regular Air Force and Special Category Accession, Uniform Guide List of Typical Offenses.

OK so with the only CONVICTION being Disorderly conduct and that is a category 4 offense. I have NEVER been convicted of a Category 1,2 or 3. Thank god. It was a fight. It was ignorant. thanks for the input. It is appreciated. I am going to press the issue about this a little bit because If what your saying is correct and Ill research it a little more (no offense), I should not be disqualified for SF.

ok here you go. Researched it..... here it is... can argue with black and white right?
A3.2.4. Category 4 Moral Offenses. This list of offenses is a guide. Consider traffic violations that are
treated as serious by law enforcement agencies as category 4 offenses (including boating, aviation,
and similar recreational vehicular offenses). In doubtful category 4, nontraffic cases, treat similar
offenses as category 4 offenses when the maximum possible confinement under the local law is 4
months or less. Two convictions or adverse adjudications in the last 3 years, or three or more convictions
or adverse adjudications in a lifetime is disqualifying for entry into the Air Force. Waivers to
these offenses may be approved by the lowest level of command in the procurement source:
COLOR="Red"]A3.2.4.8. Disorderly conduct, creating disturbance or boisterous conduct, disturbing the peace.[/COLOR]
Either way I really do appreciate your input. Here is the link to where i found this for good measure. If you find that there may have been an error in anything let me know. I am just wanting to figure out what is TRUE and what is being passed on as a result of a recruiter wanting to fill positions. thank you again

thanks... Waiver is almost approved. Not a huge deal about the SF just dont want to take something just because they want to fill a spot nobody else will.

You should consider yourself lucky to even get in with that record. If you can get into a decent career field, do it. In this economy, enlistments are up as are the entry requirements. My son's bad credit history disqualified him from day one.

technically be in the AF infantry as the SF have become more of that than a real police force. No offense but this is how I feel about it.
Must be nice to know it all without even being in. Frankly your feelings don't matter... Yes, the SF field may have duties beyond the scope of "normal police work"; however, they are still the AF law enforcement branch. You made some poor choices 4 years ago, and you've got to live with them. As eichampt1 said, be thankful you're being allowed to enlist; look forward and not back, STFU, learn your job, and you'll go far. Continue to speculate on what you think you know, reference out of date pubs, and question the integrity of those making the docisions that control your fate, and you'll contiue to find yourself running into dead ends...
good luck!

Horrifically erroneous statement. I would know. I heard this same line a damn decade ago. Know how much LE I've done? A shit ton. Know how much combat I've done? Very little.
Also, IIRC, charges of domestic abuse can be grounds to prohibit carrying a firearm.
You'll never be a cop with that rap sheet. Sorry, you should have thought of that at the time and listened to the people who told you that those mistakes would last the rest of your life.
There's nothing wrong with fixing aircraft. Take what you can get! And feel lucky they're letting you in AT ALL. I've seen guys denied entry for FAR less.

I can't speak for the AF (although I'm confident in assuming it goes the same) but in the outside world you would never be considered for employment by any law enforcement agency.
Regardless of your automatic DQ, the domestic violence, it's a numbers game. There are always going to be candidates without that kind of record.
I know this has nothing to do with your question, I'm just assuming you are going into SF (a law enforcement agency) with hopes of becoming a police officer.
