LMAO... Scoring 90% or greater makes you,
actually good at their job.....

Who is going to cost the AF more long term? People who live longer or people who die early? How bout the fact ACC had 5 PT related deaths last year? How much did that cost the AF? They had money invested in those people.

PT is good, but common on.........

The people who die earlier also often die suddenly (like with a fatal heart attack), so long-term costs are reduced. Just about every reason put forth as to why this PT program is important are full of logical holes.

HOWEVER, the PT test is not that hard. Anyone with just a bit of dedication and self-discipline can pass it.

Okay - agreed - but you also have to sign a waiver if you SMOKE or drink alcohol.

You might be able to run faster than me, and you may skinnier than me, and my waist may be bigger than yours - but my lungs are much much cleaner than yours (to all the smokers).

Here's the solution to fix the overweight Air Force:

GET RID OF BURGER KING AND ANTHONY'S PIZZA IN THE FOOD COURTS!

Seriously, nine times out of ten when I want to grab something to eat on base, only the fast food establishments are open.

Burger King sells salads. You can also get a grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo. They usually have a poster on the wall listing the caloric content of their food. You CAN make healthy choices eating there. Just because BK is the only restaurant open doesn't mean you're forced to eat a double whopper with cheese and extra mayo with a large fries on the side.

That's an excuse for an unhealthy lifestyle, not a reason.

True, but usually the fat content of the salad is high. I agree with you that it's no excuse, though. I personally pack my lunch - it's cheaper, healthier, and I can have a nice picnic outside if the weather is fair.

Only if you get crap like crispy chicken or other stuff on it, or drench it in blue cheese dressing or the like.

Bingo. I've fielded complaints from subordinates about unhealthful restaurants on base before, and I always bring that up. It's easier to scapegoat Popeye's, I guess.

Those chicken sandwiches aren't as healthy as you think they might be. I know it's everyone's personal responsibility to eat right, but the Air Force isn't helping any by promoting fast food. There's alot "they" could do to promote more healthy dining options on base. But like anything else, it's about the bottom dollar, I guess. It's just like the public schools--they serve pizza, burgers, and fried chicken, and have soda machines and junkfood vending machines and reduced PE classes, and we wonder why our youth are obese.

I can see the fat Airman being an eye sore however the metrics used in the current test don't seem to make sense, to me at least. If I go to clothing sales I see shelves of uniforms for Airmen of every different height, chest size, and waist measurement. In clothing the Air Force acknowledges we all come in different shapes and sizes yet the waist measurement score on the PT test does not account for that difference in body shape. I'm 6'6". I have broad shoulders, I wear a size 11 1/2 boot and a generally a large dude. I'm not fat but rather trim and my waist has been between 38 to 40 inches depending who measures me and what I had to eat the night before for the last 5 years or so. I always max my pushups and sit-ups (they're not crunches if you have to come all the way up!) I run a steady 11:30 - 12:15 mile and a half, depending on winds, temperature and fear of failing factor. Now, I can take a fellow Airman, smaller then me, we can do the same amount of push-ups and crunches and run shoulder to shoulder, finish at the same time but because he is physically smaller then me and naturally has a smaller waist he'll get a better score. The AFI says he's healthier then me, he is more "fit to fight", yet I can lift more then him and carry more weight for longer. The waist measurement is a indicator of future health issues right? If you are a man and look like you are in your third trimester perhaps you’ll be a burden to the AF or VA one day. But what about today? I’m as fit as an ox and can do my job easily. I think if we want people to be combat ready perhaps we should mix it up and make it more like either the Army or Marine Corps PT program. As it stands right now I feel as if you can run like the wind and are as thin as a rail the AF wants you. If you are a big man (not fat but taller then some door ways), strong, can literally carry a fellow Airmen to safety yet your waist isn’t resembling that of an Ethiopian on a diet you get hosed. I know the coming changes will alleviate some of this but it won’t correct the inherent flaw.

I wonder and this is a crazy idea I know, but I wonder if the AF is going to make it mandatory we all do our test at the HAWK will they hire civil servants or some contractor? If they hire a contractor (or civil servant), is it expected that a certain percentage “will fail”? Will any of us fall victim to a contractor trying to stay in good standing with leadership so they will have a job and screw some poor hapless Airman in the process? It’s like picking inspectors isn’t it? Inspectors “have” to find something wrong, otherwise it looks like they are not doing their jobs. Ok I’m done, time for bed….
