I am an 0321 Sergeant in the SMCR and have nearly completed my PSEP package (If you are aware that they are no longer taking reserve to active Augmentees, that is true--but there is an exception to every rule, and in this case, I am one of those). I have read the order regarding bonuses, spoken to a couple recruiters and a career planner, and they all tell me the same thing: because I am a reservist I do not rate any type of bonus for reenlisting active duty.

Some background

I have been in for 4 years, since June 2005.
I was activated for 18 months for OIF from June 2006-December 2007
I voluntarily did two back to back 7 month tours in Iraq with Reconnaissance Units.
Since returning I have done nothing but attend training schools, work on ADOS orders, and attend required drill/AT periods.

I know I haven't been "active" duty for the past four years, but I have been on active status of some kind nearly all of that time. Frankly though, I don't understand what difference it makes whether I was active or reserve the past for years. A reenlistment bonus is not payment for the previous four years, its a bonus for reenlisting for the next four years...well, I am reenlisting active duty for another four years and for whatever reason I fall in a "Reenlistment Bonus Black Hole" where I rate nothing.

I am reenlisting regardless, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

S/F

Would you pay a part time employees a bonus like your full time, and over time working employees? Nope.

Well, no...but I assume you are thinking I am part time, when, in fact, I am not...if I had been doing the usual reservist thing and going to college while giving the minimum to the military, then I wouldn't expect anything either...

...thanks for the help though...you truly must be a leader of marines...

Your best bet would be to look up the regulations regarding reenlistment bonuses and see what the eligibility requirements are. What little searching I have done has shown very few options for reenlistement bonuses in the Corps period.

Indeed, and they are phasing them out all together now that we have arrived at 202K...but as it stands, the bonus for my rank/MOS is $81,000. I appreciate the help. I am really just hoping there is some forgotten clause somewhere that someone may know of. The order itself is pretty straightforward--once you decipher it, that is--and it seems like the possibility of a reservist augmenting to active duty simply slipped their minds...

Your part time in the equasion I layed out....you said it right above my text.

Well, I suppose if you take specific parts of what I said and piece it together to fit your so called equation, then it works out...but you tell me, does the four years that I reenlist for on active duty NOT equal the same four years you reenlisted for(assuming you have been in long enough to reenlist). Four years is four years bro...but given the fact that all of my time in the SMCR has been on "active" status and not simply attending college or whatever, I feel like I, for lack of a better word, deserve a bonus of some kind. I won't hold my breathe on the Marine Corps giving me what I feel like I might "deserve," but this thread was about asking for knowledge about all of the options out there, not for some pompous Marine to inject his personal opinion that in no way helps me...It's okay though, I have actual Leaders who are helping me.

Sorry, wasn't trying to pick and choose your words to bend it in my favor. The point is that if you are a reservist, whether you were activated or not means you don't rate a bonus. In my opinion you should.....however that doesn't mean much to the Commandant what the heck a Captain wants anyhow. I feel like you should get more for the g.i. bill as well, but we all know that wont happen either.

Well here is the order.

MCBUL 7220. FISCAL YEAR 2010 (FY10) SELECTIVE REENLISTMENT BONUS (SRB) PROGRAM AND FY10 BROKEN SERVICE SRB (BSSRB) PROGRAM
"10. THIS BULLETIN IS NOT APPLICABLE TO THE MARINE CORPS RESERVE."

I'm no CRS but to me it sounds like, even though you served active duty for a while, you are still part of the Marine Corps Reserve and this order does not apply to you. Hope this helps in someway.

MCBUL 7220 does not apply to reservists. And to my knowledge, the FY10 Reserve Enlistment Bonus(es) (REB) have not been announced yet. I have looked for it and talked to a prior service head hunter and got that message from him.

But if anyone knows anything else, I'm all ears.
