they have improved from the Star Runners? lol
If you have a pair of running shoes, yes you can bring them to BMT with you.
Make sure they're really running shoes, not basketball shoes, baseball cleats, hiking shoes.
When your flight goes to the military clothing issue store for getting ABUs, Boots, your TI usually will ask you if you need a pair of running shoes. If you don't need a pair, show the TI the pair you brought with you, and the TI will allow you to use them for PRT and Zero-week.
what is PRT? Will I be able to use them the entire 8 weeks that I'm there?
PRT= physical readiness training, which you will do at least once a day. Usually Mon, Wed, and Fri are aerobics/running days and Tue, Thur, and Sat are strength training days. Sunday is your "rest" day, this is where you do classroom stuff like learning about the air force and then cleaning the dorms. It's also the only day you can relax for a couple of hours at church... away from the MTIs.
The entire time you are there, when conducting PRT, you will have to wear "approved" running shoes. Like I said earlier, if you're bring your own, make sure they are legit running shoes, or the MTIs will make you waste $80 something on a pair at BMT. When you're not doing PRT, you will be in ABUs, and you will be doing field training with boots. The first week you're at BMT though, you will see that you will be mismatched with ABUs and running shoes, this signifies that your flight is a "baby" flight and that you are new in BMT.
