Hi,

I am a former Marine SSgt with 13 years of service who went to the Army and is currently serving his 3 years contract with 15 months left. I want to ask if there is a possibility to go back to the Marines. I still have 15 months on my current contract. I have civilian education (M Ed) as well as military education. Also I want to ask if I retain the rank of SSgt?

Thanks!

You can come back into the Marine Corps at any time. However, you will probably come in without your previous rank. I have heard of people coming back with all their rank, but they had only been out less than 90 days. I believe that is the cutoff, but I could be mistaken.

JKT, I got out of the Corps for 3 years and 5 days to be exact. I had to come back in one rank lower. Now, I only got out as a Cpl, it may be different for SNCO's, but I'm not sure how you could come back in as a SSgt. Good luck either way.

I just noticed this thread was started back in July.

I got out in Sept 03 as a CPL, 2 years later got a warrant for Sgt in the Marine Corps Reserves (IRR), 4 years and 8 months later(total) I re-enlisted as a Sgt. Depends on what your situation is.
