Firemen generally work in and around anything involved with the propuslion of the ship. Airmen work in and around the aviation community. Seamen work in the divisions and departments that are responsible for getting the ship to sea, navigating it, and getting it back in port. They also tend to the support of the personnel that do that work.
There are also Constructionmen. They're the SeaBees. Wikipedia has a good, easy to understand breakdown of it at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_ratings#Administration. 2C_deck.2C_medical.2C_technical.2C_and_weapons_spe cialty_ratings
