Hello,

I served four years as an infantryman in the Marine Corp; I got out in 2007. I have been working on my accounting degree since I got out and will be finished in around two years.

My ultimate goal is to be an officer in the Air Force. In the meantime I am considering joining the air force enlisted in the meantime. From I understand I will have to go special forces or security forces; I am fine with security forces.

What I am asking is what my best bet for getting into OCS is. Would I be best to stay out until I finish my degree? I hear it is difficult to switch from enlisted to officer but can being enlisted really hinder me? Something tells me that once in I can talk with the right people and get in.

Any ideas or information on this?

Thank-you!
Jeremy

1) I dont think AF takes prior service as active duty, perhaps only as guard or reserves

2) its best just to finish your degree and go straight into becoming an officer

Hi,

I am currently an Air Force Recruiter and I can tell you that yes, you can try to come back as enlisted in the active duty Air Force, your job choices mught be limited but if you are flexible as far as jobs then you shouldnt have a problem, thats assuming that you had a honorable discharge and your are physically qualified.

As far as becoming an officer I hope you can go to my thread :http://www.militarytimes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1579657, there I give a good idea on what it takes to become an officer in the Air Force. But my first advice will be to you to enroll in the ROTC, that would be your best option if you want to become an Air Force officer.

Joining the enlisted core wont hurt you, as a matter of fact it might help you if you dont do ROTC, but your best chance would be to talk to an ROTC recruiter and inform yourself. Even if they dont have an ROTC program at the college you are enrolling you will need to find the closest one to you college and see if they let you register there.

Hopefully you find this advice useful and you are able to complete your goals.

You are allowed to join Active duty if you were prior enlisted. You are just limited to certain jobs. My husband is prior Marine Corps and I'm active duty Air Force and he is going in AD AF Security forces! I can be done!
