Im sure you can be in the DEP until something opens up, I think youre allowed in DEP for up to a year, theyre probably not going to turn away a willing applicant

Since it's full, I'd have to assume so.

I hope you dont like having lots of friends. The only friends MPs have are other MPs, cuz nobody else likes them (would YOU want to be friends with the guy who writes you a ticket?).

Nonetheless, good luck in bootcamp. Keep your head up and your attitude down.

Don’t take no for an answer, Tell the recruiter that you want to sing up and the only way is that I get MP in my contract and if they still say it is full then tell them to contact you when it opens up. You should receive a call for them in about two hours but don’t fall for any thing else set those lines and don’t budge it will work for you if that is the only thing that you want to do.

They're downsizing the MP field because more and more places are turning over to civilian contracters. You're allowed in the DEP even longer than a year, you just have to re-DEP at the year mark.

At this point though, I'd ask yourself what's more important: being a Marine, or being an MP? If it's the former, look into another MOS (I wouldn't recommend open contract, but some people do go this route and get good jobs). If it's the latter, check with the other branches and see what's open.

I'd wait if you want it and like they said just tell them to contact you when they have the MP field. If there IS more slots out there that other recruiter stations have I have seen them trade different MOS's to get ones that are more needed at that station. Don't sign up and then think later your going to get it, get it in WRITING. Bravo, its not really that they are 'downsizing' us. They are just putting all of us in deployable commands. Even on Camp Pendleton they have FAP's helping the MP's and Marine Corps Police Department because its a much needed MOS in garrison and in theater.

Your an idiot. No offense. There is a lot that goes into assigning jobs. When every 17 and 18 year old kid thinks he wants to be an MP, then the programs disappear quick from MCRISS. Most Marine Corps recruiters shy away from job dependent individuals cause they care more about themselves than others, which detracts from what the Marine Corps is suppose to stand for.

You sign up to be a Marine first. Having an MOS is just a bonus.

I know that this response is about 2 months old but, don't you think that it would be smarter to have an MP for a friend so that you don't get a ticket? Because I sure think so. And we don't only have other MP's as friends. Learn about something before you just talk out of your ass because you messed up and got in trouble and now hold a grudge against the guys that brought you in.

I would seriously think about your choice in picking military police as an MOS. If you are wanting to be that guy that carries a badge and a gun and writes tickets, that is not necessarily going to be where you end up. For the idiots that post ignorant responses about an MOS they are not in, please allow
me the opportunity to enlighten you to the fact that the Military Police MOS encompasses TWO sides... Garrison MP and Field MP. Knowing how to write a ticket or knowing vehicle codes for citations doesn't amount to a hill of beans on the field side. The field side conducts just about as much training in weapon systems, on ranges, field ops, and room clearing procedures as the grunts do. The garrison side MPs have a responsibility you probabaly can't even begin to fathom and work far more hours than most other MOSs on the Corps.... And the garrison side has specialty MOSs within the military police field that most people don't even know about but are extremely helpful when you call us abou a stolen vehicle or a traffic accident.

Even in my defense of this MOS, I would not necessarily recommend it to others due to the extremely slow and difficult promotion rate. I would say that it takes a special love of law enforcement to thoroughly enjoy this MOS. And while I agree that being a Marine first is important, I also believe in picking a job that you feel you will enjoy the best. I am a firm believer an individual performs better at a job they are interested in.

Pick the job you want and stick with it.. But research it thoroughly and make sure it's what you really want.
