This is not true. I came in last year as an E3 for Human Resources. I had several jobs available to me. Oct 1st started the new fiscal year and the Army "refreshs" the job list at that time. Now is the time to enlist! You will have more options available now than if you put it off any longer.

Perhaps you or whomever told you this information confused it with the IRR recalls. Rumor had it for quite some time that male E-4s and below recalled to active duty from the IRR were assigned to the Infantry; E-5s and above went Civil Affairs. Women were reassigned to whatever they were before. However, I do know a few people recalled who did not fall into this pattern.

If you reenlist, you should be eligible to join in your former MOS or pick from a list of available options.

I am going through the process now, I was offered about 20 dif MOS. Also bonus $$ for being prior service.
I think a lot of it depends on your GT score from the Asvab and the needs of the Army the day you are at MEPS.

No. Chances are that if you have been out for less than five years, your only option will be your prior MOS. If your current MOS is balanced or overstrength, you may be offered other jobs. Those offers are always contingent upon needs of the Army and may not be very attractive.

It should, I have been out for almost 12 years. Go talk to your recruiter, that is the only way to find out what is offered and what is not.

Normally, you get one of two options. You can go back into your former MOS with duty station of choice, provided there is an opening there. Second, you can normally get retraining into the top 20 MOS needed by the Army the day you enlist. This is all contingent upon your DD214. What is your reentry code and separation code? Anything other than a re code of 1 will require a waiver to get back in.

Did you have to retake the ASVAB in order to come back in? How helpful were the recruiters in getting you back in? I mean for like other branches, prior service is usualy put on the back burner except for the reserves or guard. I am prior service army, having served 7 years.

I hate to do this but I have to call B.S. on this one. Right now prior service are VERY limited in MOS choice, as a matter of fact very few get to even keep their old MOS. I do not doubt that you may have been offered a couple of choices(like less than 5) but I guarantee you were not offered 20 choices. As for the bonus, this is another lie, bonus for prior service have been non-exsistant for some time now and it will be a while before they are offered again. Please don't post false information as people who do not know any better will assume it is true and get there hopes up only to be let down. Right now for prior service the key is to get back in, you may have to take a crap job but just sign for a 3 year and reenlist in 2 years for something else.

P.S. What rank did you come back in as.
