Okay... So I tried to join the air force but my credit sucked they denied me....
SO I tried to Navy and they denied me because of my Lens implant.....
Sooooo now I am trying the Army. Does anyone know if 1. having a lens implant automatically disqualifiy me for the Army and 2. If it doesnt how do I make sure it doesnt? I currently see 20/40 with glasses in both eyes and see fine in general. Im just wondering if the Army will DQ me for the same reason the Navy did before I waste my time or a recruiters time

So let me get this right....the Army was your THIRD choice AFTER the AF and Navy turned you down? Hmmmmm. But yeah, due to a detached retina, I had a lens implant in 98. Had nine years at the time. I wasn't discharged because of it.

FatCat, if you were already in, you go by RETENTION standards. This kid has to go by ACCESSION standards. IMHO, if you couldn't get through MEPS for the Navy, you sure as heck won't get through MEPS for the Army-MEPS standards don't change (often).

lol wow, how bad was your credit? Five Chapter 7/11's? Ten? A hundred grand owed?
Was it that obvious they did a on the spot credit check as soon as you walked through the door?
my credit was never discussed once at my recruiters office

Bad credit.....I thought that was just a myth.
Go talk to the Army Recruiter. You are not wasting his or her time. They are there to see if interested individuals can get in.
About the eye thing.....Google your question.

Your MEPS Physical will be changed over to the Army to look at. The MEPS doctor has nothing to do whether or not you get in. However, he makes a recommendation to have your waiver approved/disapprove. Your MEPS physical along with any other medical documents you submit, gets forward to the surgeon general. If he approves you then you're good. He may disapprove you or ask for a consultation before making final approval. I suggest you get something from your primary care physician stating that you have no problems with your eye and can do anything the Army asks of you.

Lens.
Current aphakia (379.31), history of lens implant, or current or history of dislocation of a lens is disqualifying.
Current or history of opacities of the lens (366) that interfere with vision or that are considered to be progressive, including cataract (366.9), are disqualifying.
Derived from Department of Defense (DOD) Directive 6130.3, "Physical Standards for Appointment, Enlistment, and Induction," and DOD Instruction 6130.4, "Criteria and Procedure Requirements for Physical Standards for Appointment, Enlistment, or Induction in the Armed Forces.'
You'll need a waiver. Hint: You can find more information about medical waivers at the same website.
