i joined the army reserves in nov 2007 and completed BCT in Apr 2008, during my AIT i had a family emergency and was issued a 6 month leave from training to handle these issues. in Feb 2009 i began contacting any possible contacts i could find to initiate the paperwork to continue training because i had not received anything in the mail at this point. during the same timeframe (Feb and Mar 2009) my recruiter had also attempted to get the paperwork initiated. neither of us had any luck with this process, phone calls were not returned and paperwork was never put through.

during the past few weeks, while attempting this process again, i learned that i received an uncharactorized discharge for not completeing training after the 6 month period. the questions that i have now are is there any way to either get the discharge reversed or speed up the reenlistment process so that i do not have to wait the 6 month waiting period for reenlistment. also is there any way of retaining the enlistment bonuses that i signed up with when i reenlist? any information regarding this issue would be very appreaciated.

Can't answer your questions, but I'll go ahead and toss you a couple of questions that someone more helpful will ask before being helpful anyways.

When exactly did the family emergency happen during AIT, what month? Trying to get an idea of how much leave you had left when you tried to contact folks.

Why was there so large a gap, between March and now October, in you continuing to make attempts to get back from leave to AIT?

Did you get a DD-214 and, if so, what was the provision of AR 635-200 you were processed out under ?

Too easy. take your discharge order to your local recruiter and get the paperwork started. You may have to process for a different job, but you can get back in. Uncharacterized discharges are too easy to process. If your recruiter doesn't know what to do, find one who has some experience and they'll do it.
