Brig. Gen. Colleen L. McGuire took command of Army Criminal Investigation Command and assumed responsibility as the Provost Marshal General of the Army during a ceremony Thursday at Fort Belvoir, Va.
McGuire, who most recently led the Army Suicide Prevention Task Force and was director of the Senior Leader Development Office in the Office of the Army Chief of Staff, is the first woman to command CID since it was established as a major command in September 1971.
She succeeds Brig. Gen. Rodney L. Johnson, who is retiring after 33 years of service.
Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli hosted the change of command ceremony.
[Army law enforcement] should be incredibly proud of all that you have accomplished on behalf of your Army and our nation, he said during the ceremony. You have a significant and lasting impact. However, much work remains to be done and I absolutely believe Brigadier General Colleen McGuire is the right person to lead you in the challenging days ahead.
McGuire, who was commissioned in 1979 into the military police corps, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead soldiers.
Im honored to be given this privilege to command and lead, she said. The greatest honor for any soldier is to command the sons and daughters of America. It is a particular honor for me, a military police officer, to command at this level in a time of war.
