Default Lawmaker seeks consistency in flag honors

Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., has introduced two bills designed to show respect for fallen troops. One piece of legislation would require federal agencies to lower flags to half-staff when state governors order flags lowered, and the other would ensure that the Defense Department transports remains of service members to the military or civilian airport nearest to the chosen burial site, rather than the nearest major airport.

Do you think these rules should be changed?

[1] Personally I think that the national government should be the one giving directions as to when the national flag ought to be displayed and how.

[2]Since the military/government has a plethora of smaller aircraft available (some of which are simply sitting around waiting for a seniour officer/official to decide that it is imperative that they fly someplace on "official" business, I think that it would be more appropriate that the troops who have paid the ultimate price have priority on the use of those aircraft and that the seniour officers/officials be relegated to "space available" AFTER those troops are properly looked after by the military/government.
