No matter what you do some will always find fault because that is their only focus/goal and source of joy. They are negative by nature and weak in character. These people are the losers of society. Avoid them like the plague.

Never should've gone into Iraq, should've gone into Afghanistan with the resources we never should have put in Iraq. Afghanistan would be better now.
That being said, at a certain point you have to acknowledge that we are trying to make the Afghans have something they've never had nor do they particularly seem to want. I don't think we're going to be able to pull off making that country into a functioning nation, I don't think we have the energy at this point (it was, again, wasted in Iraq) ... I think at this point we should put in a good faith effort for another 18 months and cut sling. It'll give enough time for the Afghans that want to get out, get out before that place turns into a complete wasteland again.

Problem is that you have to have a nation to build before doing nation building and that is the key factor missing in Afghanistan. This place isn't so much a nation as it is a "region" that is home to many different tribes, and villages. Afghanistan is more like the Indian Nations in America in the 1800's each with it's own culture, language, and values than it is any one group of people. You cannot force a "national identity" on a people. It has become even more apparent in our own country where many think of themselves as hyphenated Americans instead of Americans period. Just as we should have done in Iraq we need to get over this antiquated idea that a "nation" has to stay a nation and go more along the lines of what happened in Yugoslavia. Problem is most these places have no defined borders and are more "tribal" in organization than "nation" in organization. Once we realize this we might actually achieve some success.

We will never leave, just like Korea....we will always have some sort of presence over there....well into the future....

All I know for sure is that we've spent hundreds of billions of dollars and lost thousands of Soldiers lives and have almost nothing (besides one dead dictator) to show for it. This scenario always plays out the same. We take down the government/regime, we pump tons of money and bodies into the war torn area, we leave, a new regime takes over and then we have to go back in and start all over again. I'm honestly surprised we aren't doing this today in Vietnam. Luckily some great minds in the past thought better than to do what we are doing now. As if we don't have enough problems INSIDE our countries own borders?!?!?!

If you're going to keep us there, let us do our jobs. Instead of controlling air strikes i have to watch my friends get thier asses handed to them, try to break contact. Now if they cant break contact then I can THINK about CAS, but until then it aint happening. Cut off the handcuffs, stop being PC. Maybe if we start going after these clowns with some attitude we can get our job done. Until then the Taliban knows what we can and cant do because we need to thousands of reports out there watching our every move. How do you think Iwo or Normandy would've turned out of we had reporters there with the troops? Would've been different I bet.

I say this in half-jest, but the Soviets got their asses handed to them and no other empire was able to conquer the Afghans if I'm not mistaken. We might as well make it worth our while if we're going to get added to the list of people who get our asses handed to us nine ways from Sunday in the long run......
