Post Thurman says deployed with head injury

From the article --

Thurman stepped forward Friday as one of the 18 soldiers whose cases were cited by six senators in a letter to the Government Accountability Office requesting a review of alleged improper handling of traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and ungrounded personality disorder discharges.

The letter was sent after an Army surgeon general investigation into the cases said the soldiers were handled properly — but the soldiers involved said no one from the surgeon general’s office ever talked to them in the course of that investigation.

Meanwhile, a former Fort Carson officer has come forward to denounce the treatment of a soldier diagnosed with pre-existing personality disorder, rather than PTSD and traumatic brain injury, after reading about the case of Spc. Jon Town in Military Times.

Default Re: Thurman says deployed with head injury

I don't doubt any of this happened as my son experienced similar treament at Ft Carson while recuperating from facial reconstructive surgery. His 1st Sgt despised the guys that were on medical profile; thinking they were on profile to avoid going to Iraq. So, he disregarded the non-deployable status on my sons profile and told him to get his stuff packed and get on the plane to Iraq. My son wasn't the only one, but he was the only one another Sgt pulled off the bus to the plane knowing he shouldn't be going to Iraq with orders not to wear kevlar. Long story short, my son is now in Iraq AFTER make a complete recovery and with the proper paperwork.

My question is what are the folks in Kuwait doing when they get soldiers that are carrying non-deploy medical profiles? Are they babysitting until they are fully recovered or continuing the stupidity and sending on to Iraq? Sounds like Ft Carson has some issues with interpreting commands and following procedures.

My son tried to explain they were making a mistake, the Sgt acted like he didn't hear anything. My son remains in the Army because he ultimately followed orders (even stupid ones) and was lucky enough to have someone with balls enough to step in a stop the madness for him; sounds like there are a number of guys that weren't afforded that.

So I guess you have two options if you are on medical profile. Stand up against the stupidity and get thrown out of the Army or "be a good soldier" and get sent to the front at less than 100% capability. I doubt my son will be contemplating reupping after his 4 years are up. Too bad, he used to like the Army but after demonstrating total disregard for his welfare just to meet a fricking number...welll
