Post Tillmans, Jessica Lynch to testify

From the article --

Cpl. Pat Tillman’s mother and brother, along with former Pvt. Jessica Lynch, are scheduled to testify Tuesday at a congressional hearing that will focus on the initial and inaccurate reports of Tillman’s friendly fire death in Afghanistan and Lynch’s capture and rescue in Iraq.

“Misleading Information from the Battlefield” will begin at 10 a.m. in Room 2157 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

During the hearing, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will examine why inaccurate accounts of those two incidents were disseminated, the sources and motivations for the accounts, and whether the appropriate officials have been held accountable, according to the committee’s Web site.

Findings from a Defense Department review released in late March cited four generals and five other officers in Tillman’s chain of command for mistakes made in reporting his death. The officers have been referred to a four-star Army general for further review and possible punishment for providing misleading or inaccurate information regarding the way Tillman was killed.

Tillman’s family has rejected the Pentagon’s findings, and they called for congressional investigations into what they see as broad malfeasance and a cover-up.

Mary and Kevin Tillman, Pat Tillman’s mother and brother, will be asked to testify about their communications with Army officials after their loved one’s death and about the information provided to them concerning the circumstances surrounding the incident, according to documents posted on the committee’s Web site.

Lynch was asked by the committee to talk about her capture and rescue, and the information that was disseminated about her and the incident.

No mystery here, the lies and deceptions of this Administration permeates into every aspect of this war. The Tillman and Lynch affaires are only the surface of God knows how many others, and represent the rush to present "patriotic events" in order to keep the people somehow loyal to the failed policies of the government. The fact that those "patriotic events" were fabricated by the Bush administration didn't seem to bother a Republican Congress. Let's hope that these hearings will shed some light into the moral turpitude that has clutched this country for the last six years.

Is there really anyone out there that thinks Lynch is a hero? Really? The real heroes are those which are sacrificing everyday. She was captured after colliding her truck and suffering injuries to her legs. Sad, but not much is mentioned about Lori Piestewa and the other members of the 507th that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Tillman and all the others are heroes. Lynch was the poster child to justify a leadership failure.

This thread is not about the actions of these individual soldiers. It is about the initial and inaccurate reports by our military and government regarding Tillman’s friendly fire death in Afghanistan and Lynch’s capture and rescue in Iraq. Lynch cannot be blamed for how she was used as a poster child. Tillman was used in the same manner.

No, Lynch could have and should have spoken out immediately, particularly, when the medals, awards, cash, book deals, movie deals and other "gifts" began pouring in.

No, her behaviour is just as despicable as the efforts by this administration to deceive the American public.

I hear so much about this administration -- but the previous was NO better. Look what happended in Somalia -- a movie was created about it, the truth was those incredible soldiers were betrayed by a Secretary of Defense and President too squeemish to take a hard stand! If it hadn't been for a tough general in the Balkins it would have turned out the same way!

The truth is -- war will NEVER be perfect! It's terrible but required -- look at WW2 where 10,000 to 20,000 could be lost in one single major engagement. Everyone wants everthing fixed, right now, no problems, no lies, no deaths (on our side), and yet expect the news to tell them every tiny detail, but don't touch "MY" life, don't spend any money, and try to believe -- No one would do something too horrible. Then when it happens, want someone to blame, except no accepts any blame!

THE WORLD IS NOT PERFECT -- AND NEVER WILL BE. People jump down the current presidents throat, but remember what the previous president put down someone elses! And he's almost considered a HERO. What a screwed up world we live in!!!

I agree - and while these hearings are going on by people who seem to have an axe to grind there are other sons and daughters on the ground in foreign lands riskign their lives... the Dem congress cannot really be thinking of their needs to be playing games at a time like this.

I am ex-Army, Ranger, Viet Nam, w/Bronze wV, 2 purples, and I know that this Administration has done such a disservice to this country in all manner of things. Impeachment of this whole administration would be fit, moral, and ethical. Party loyalty to the extreme that "some" are practicing (both Dems and Repubs) is bordering on "evil" and "criminally intent." Tilman was no hero -- he just got killed. Lynch was no hero -- she just survived. Lying about their deaths and deeds is just that -- lies. And, it does not do anything for the soldiers still living. Tilmans and Lynch are doing what any decent person would -- get to the truth.

I continue to be amazed at the lies perpetuated by the Bush regime. If the war was so "just", why the supporting lies? The Truth Will Set You Free, even if it doesn't make you happy. It will still set you free.

And please, enough about Clinton and Monica. Here's a thought: Clinton was prez for a few days before the first WTC bombing, after Bush Sr had had 4 years in office, plus 8 as VP. Clinton never once blamed Bush Sr for the attacks, and the perps were apprehended and stood legal trial.
After almost 8 months in office and mere weeks after Cheney met with the Taliban IN Afghanistan, the horror of 9/11 happened--and the GOP has never, ever stopped blaming Clinton. Huh?

We have created more terrorists in Iraq than were ever there before--Saddam was too secular for most Islamic extremists. Why did we ever leave Afghanistan? And as far as Laura Bush and her joy at the freed women of Afghanistan, the Taliban are back to shooting female teachers in front of their female students.
And where is Osama bin Laden?? NOT ONE OBJECTIVE HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED IN FIVE LONG YEARS.

Of course, there you have the perfect answer and excuse put forth by the right wing nuts of this country. In order to justify a colossa blunder and criminal enterprise like Iraq we have to go back, as usual, to Clinton and his sexual excapades. I guess it shows the famous moral values of Republicans when they justify the incompetence of this president saying: we are bad, but so were they, so let's drop the subject. Never mind that a country has been turned to rubble in the process, but you are right about the fact that nobody wants to accept the blame, so far I haven't heard Bush or his cronies accept any resposibility for the disaster they created. Things were bad in Somalia therefore Clinton was a traitor, things go worse in Iraq therefore Bush is a hero. You are right:" What a screwed-up world we live in".
