'The Army has its code; the wives have their own.' That's what Lifetime has to say about their new show, 'Army Wives,' debuting this Memorial Day weekend at 10PM (ET/PT) on Sunday.
Based on Army spouse Tanya Biank’s book “Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives,” the series follows five spouses — four women and one man — through the pressures of military life. I watched the show and it was horrible. Like they were trying to hard. The girl in the bathroom with her dress off, please. THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN. I am an Army wife and I also happen to be black. This is another typical Lifetime production with a bunch of country people and white people. There is only "black" person and she looks mixed. I also noticed that most of the people are officers and the one PFC looks old enough to be a SGT or SSG. And can't relate to it and I am an Army wife myself. I was also in the Army myself and this show is a poor poor representation of the Army and life as an Army wife. I HATE it!

I wasn't in the Army nor am I married to a soldier. I, however, was an active duty Marine for five years (before getting out and working for the government) and have remained close to the Corps due to my boyfriend and friends who are still active duty. I will say this much about the military (and I honestly believe this is what the show "Army Wives" was trying to get across)- it has that small town mentality. Yes, there is constant rotation of new places and new faces but the gossiping and cliques that form are there.
I used to watch JAG and used to get a kick out of the obvious (if you were a Marine and around Marines that is) things that would or would not occur but we all have to remember it is a show and Army Wives, just like JAG, aren't going to be exact. I loved the show last night and plan to watch every episode that airs (and since I am not attached to the TV 24/7 that says a lot). I will admit that I thought it was probably more over the top then normal (the woman being pregnant with twins as a surrogate mother was kind of out there) but trust me, they have the drama part down pat. Live on base/in government quarters and you will witness to plenty of drama. Again, I appreciated the movie and hope it does well :0) |

I enjoyed the show. I am an Army wife, but think I would have liked it no matter. It's soap opera/drama that just happens to be set on a military base.

I am a retired Army Wife (my husband served on Active Duty for nearly 30 years) and I must say that I was HIGHLY offended by the show. Army Wives are a very special group of women who have made sacrifices many of you will never in your wildest dreams think of or go through. We have reared our children most of the time without a dad around, and we have done it willingly, lovingly and with pride. We have supported our spouses, loved them, prayed for them and cried for them. We did not do or act as the women in your show have depicted. In the real Army you would never see a General being promoted at a party - you would never see enlisted wives and officer's wives becoming best friends, you would never hear of surrogate babies being born - you would never see someone want to be Airborne and just get "picked" to join a paratrooper unit. You would first have to go through Airborne School and be assigned to an Airborne Unit! Army Wives are strong women who are proud of who they are and what their role in life is. Don't demean us in the way that your show does. I vote that it be taken off the air immediately!!! I, for one, will not watch another episode. I only watched the first one to see what kind of farce it would be.

Officers this Officers that. Why don't you show some of the nitty gritty enlisted soldiers who sacrifice so much more at home and on the field. Enlisted soldiers don't get paid at all what an officer gets. This show is going to show all the glammer of the Military. In my opinion I'll pass.

I watched the show the other night and i thogut it was just so fake.It seem like they are trying to hard.Yes i understand that they want to make a show that will show what military wives have to go thur but come on you can do better then that.Besides why not make a show that will really show what all military wives "Marine,Army,Navy,Air Forces"go though.. Thats just the way i feel..

Ok, I think everyone is forgetting that there is no way any made for television show could truly depict the real life of an Army wife. However, they hit the nail on the head with the wives wearing their hubbies rank, the gossiping, the back stapping and all the other wonderful things that come along with being an Army wife. You better believe that when Roxie said they would be talking about her outfit for a month she was telling the truth! Most Army wives are nasty, gossiping, backstapping, rank wearring hateful people. Too bad they can't remember their not in the military themselves and that all wives are going through the same thing. So the show got that part right. There will always be small details that are way off but once again it's a show! I'm hoping that the first show was just their way of introducing us to the characters and what is happeing in their personal lives in the show. I will watch again to see what unfolds because I'm open minded and I sure wasn't expecting something that depicted the military life to a tee. The way I see it is it sure can't be any worse than all the low life reality shows on the air!

Agreed. I immediately disliked the main character-the one who's husband was up for Brig. Gen but lost it to the lying wife of the counterpart. Frankly, the officers wives are the minority on base-write a story about the ones who are raising kids on minimal pay, with minimal 'glory' or support from the officers club-frankly I've never seen the inside of one. Does that make my sacrifice any less? No, my husband is actually on the frontlines-not sitting behind a desk.
