Post Skirts no longer allowed in promotion photos

Female Marines may no longer wear skirts in their promotion photos under a policy change that went into effect immediately upon authorization by the Corps’ top personnel official, Lt. Gen. Ronald Coleman, according to a Sept. 17 Corps-wide message.

Under the previous policy, female Marines could choose between wearing the skirt or the slacks authorized for the service Charlie uniform in which all promotion photos are taken.

Eliminating the option of wearing a skirt also eliminates the option of wearing high-heeled shoes, since those shoes are authorized for wear only with the skirt, according to Marine Corps uniform regulations.

Not necessarily a bad idea.

In fact, why not extend it to all forms of uniforms? The logistical savings would be significant and, besides, there aren't any"Female Marines" there are simply "Marines who happen to be female when they aren't on duty" - just like there aren't any "Black Marines" because there are only some "Marines who happen to be Black when they aren't on duty".

Or, to use the currently acceptable politicosocial jargon, the members of the USMC are "Marine-Americans".

I think the skirts should just be done away with. I always felt they made us stand out too much. In the old days prior to length standardization, it was just a way for the men to ogle women.

Sounds good, and while we're at it, enforce a unilateral hair standard for all genders of the armed forces. High and tight for men and women alike ~ !
