Default Blogs abuzz over 'forbidden' words

A list generated by the Army of derogatory words to avoid in the workplace has sparked heated commentary on the Internet.

Michelle Malkin, a nationally syndicated columnist, used a submission from an anonymous “military reader” as the subject of a Nov. 28 blog, “More Diversity Lunacy: The Army Intelligence and Security Command’s list of forbidden words.”

The submission included screenshots of an Army Knowledge Online portal showing an e-mail from an Army Intelligence and Security Command Equal Opportunity office that included an attachment of disparaging terms “that should not be used in the workplace.”

“Some of the words on this list wouldn’t be used in the workplace by most people with any common sense — but some of the words on the list are ridiculous and epitomize the overreaching hysteria of the [politically correct] speech police,” the anonymous “military reader” wrote.

The list posted on the blog contains 76 words and phrases the Army office considers inappropriate, ranging from patently offensive racial slurs to the seemingly innocuous, such as “colonial.”

So a soldier could get in trouble for saying the word "colonial", as in "Our colonial troops helped win America's independence", or "Canuck", as in "Did you see the Detroit Red Wings - Vancouver Canucks game last night?"

Meanwhile, twice in the last two weeks, Stars & Stripes published photos on its cover that had soldiers flashing gang signs.

I love our modern, PC world.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I can't believe that this list was ever thought up. Even worse, someone thought there was an actual "need" to make a list and send it to people.

Not only is this mentally jacked up (not on the list by the way), the words on the list don't make a whole lot of sense. Boy? Girl? Come on. I have talked to more girls than I care to count that would rather be called "girl" instead of "female" (which they use in basic training).

Please, whoever came up with this list, get professional help. Those of your superiors who allowed it to go out, need serious, serious help also.

I understand that some of you have been in the Military for 30+ years, but I'm sorry to say, you're still outdated. You are the equivalent of the P-38. We are the new F-22. We don't mind a few words being thrown around. We can handle it.

Grow up, get a life. If you are insulted where no insult was intended you're a freaking mental retard. (again, not on the list)

If the Army is really concerned about halting the use of inappropriate words, then remove every hip-hop CD and R-rated movie from the BX selection. After all, people are a reflection of their environment, no?

What makes you certain an old dinosaur (is that word on the list?) wrote the list. I have news for you slick (is that word on the list?). Us old fogey’s (is that word on the list?) think the list is totally unnecessary. It was more likely written by some young pup (is that word on the list?) and approved by some mid level officer who then stuck it under the nose of the CG for approval.

I have to agree with Matai here. I am a "female", I really don't wish to be referred to as "that female". I prefer to be addressed as "Goddess".

Let me re-word your question: Is this some kind of joke government?
