Active-duty, National Guard, Reserve, and retired military personnel who don’t live close to a military base can get mail-order discount tickets to Disney World.
The discounts vary depending on the ticket you buy, said Christine DeMichael, a spokeswoman for Disney Military Sales, which has offered discounted tickets to military families for more than 20 years at ticket and tours offices on military bases. A $12 service charge applies. Officials said this new option is for those who may not live near an installation. Call the Navy ITT office in Orlando at (407) 855-0116; or Navy ITT at San Diego Naval Station, (619) 556-2173. My dad is retired Army. We go to WDW every other year for a family vacation, and for the past several trips, we've stayed at the Shades of Green Mililtary Resort in Orlando. Shades is open to active/reserve/retired, former/surviving spouses (at least 20 yrs prior), 100% service-connected disability, Medal of Honor recipients, non-DoD employees working on military installations, and a few other groups (see website for more details).
Shades of Green was renovated in 2004, I think, and now it's really large (there are two pools, a sports bar, an Italian restaurant, a buffet-style restaurant, AAFES, an ice cream parlor, and a nearby golf course). Buses transport guests to the Ticket and Transportation Center for buses, the monorail system, or the ferry to take guests to other parks. Shades of Green really is a wonderful resort and I highly recommend it! Shades of Green

Active-duty service members don’t have to give up their family vacations because of the downturn in the economy.
Thanks to the Disney’s Armed Forces Salute, active-duty military and activated Guard or reserve members can enjoy complimentary, multi-day admission to Disney’s U.S. theme parks and additional special ticket offers for family and friends. From Jan. 4 to Dec. 23, troops can get one free five-day pass that covers admission to the four Walt Disney World theme parks, plus an additional five visits to a Disney water park, DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive theme park or other attractions. Up to five Salute companion tickets, also good for five days, can be purchased for $99 each, plus tax, for family and friends. Walt Disney Land in California has a similar offer. Additional information is available at installation ITT/ITR offices, according to the Air Force News Service. Article: http://www.militarytimes.com/news/20..._world_011409/ |

Military personnel, retirees and their families are eligible for free or discounted tickets to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland in California. This includes the Coast Guard as well as National Guard and Reserve personnel who have been activated at any time between Jan. 1, 2008, and the time the promotions end, said Randy Gerber, military sales manager for Destination Disney.
Spouses of troops who are deployed during the time of the special offer simply need to show their military ID card to purchase up to five discounted “Disney Armed Forces Salute Companion” tickets, Gerber said. This enables spouses of those who are deployed during the entire year, for example, to take advantage of the offer. Here are the deals: * Walt Disney World: Through Dec. 23, each active or retired member can get a free five-day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute” ticket at a military base ticket office, including the Shades of Green Resort at Walt Disney World, or at main entrance theme park ticket windows. Active or retired personnel can also buy up to five five-day tickets for $99 per ticket, plus tax, for family members or friends. * Disneyland: Through June 12, active or retired military personnel can get an exchange certificate for a free three-day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute” Park Hopper ticket, at a military base ticket office. The military member can also make a one-time purchase of a three-day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Companion” Park Hopper ticket for the price of an adult one-day ticket, for up to five family members or friends. These, too, can be bought only at a military base ticket office before you go to the park. Remember that you have to activate the exchange certificates obtained at military base ticket offices at the ticket windows at the main entrance. For more details on these and additional options, including discount rates at Disney resort hotels, visit the program’s Web site or call the military base ticket office.
