Default First Sergeants Speak Out!

First sergeants have to put up with everything from drunken, underage airmen to meddlesome parents. Calling all current and former first shirts, here's your chance to tell your most outrageous tale.

Note: Your story could be used in a future Air Force Times article.

I am actually hoping this doesn't get too many Shirts telling stories. There should be some privacy.

I've noticed more and more the Air Force Times' "reporting" is culled from comments on these message boards...I guess it makes sense, but seems lazy, not to mention there's no way to verify the truth of half the BS spouted here.

Not only the above two posts, but it reinforces the mindset that First Sergeants are in existance to be harsh disciplinarians, lending credibility to the unjust view of many first sergeants that their sole purpose is to kick out as many airman as they can.

Why not include some GOOD things shirts have done for their troops? I bet you that list is WAY SHORTER than the one of times a shirt has disciplined a troop or dealt with a 'meddling parent'.

If they don't like their job, no one made them be a first sergeant. That's a special duty.

Volunteer once to join the military and not liking it, shame on your recruiter.
Volunteer for a special duty after having known what you've gotten into and not liking it, shame on you.

Really? That's news to me. I thought it was like being a TI or a recruiter...

If by voluntold you mean forced retraining like what they do for K9 and CATM.... still no sympathy, though that does explain atleast a few crappy first shirts.

I did it for 2 weeks to cover for a leave in a 500 man AGS Sq., that made up my mind that I never wanted to sew on a diamond. They are always grumpy from the 0300 phone calls for the stupid shit people do.

Are you saying every acting first sergeant is placed on duty because they want the job?
