We here at Army Times Publishing Company began the Marine Corps Times Marine of the Year award in 2001 to recognize an outstanding Marine. The initial program highlighted exemplary achievement by a Marine beyond the call of duty. The award's criteria now include the following:

* High level of professionalism
* Concern for fellow service members
* Commitment to community service

Many of the candidates for this award will likely be among those often overlooked and unsung.

What, in your opinion, makes a great Marine?

I assume everyone can name one attribute they feel is important.

He must have passion and pride to be the best at everything he does.

dedication and loyalty are essential, in my belief...i strongly believe that even if i injure myself doing something
(depending on how serious the injury,--ex: im not gonna cut my hand off to stop it hurting...derr--)

and i completed it, then it was effective... and i can always heal, and i figure ill die one day anyways, im not going to trouble myself about when god thinks it's time for me to come home =]
