The Air Force’s “Do Something Amazing” recruiting Web site has done something amazing: It swept through the Web Marketing Association’s annual WebAwards, winning for best government site and best military site.
“This recognition is a credit to the vision of everyone who has worked so hard to make the site appeal to young people,” said Col. Brian Madtes, chief of the Air Force Recruiting Service’s Strategic Communications Division. “The ‘Do Something Amazing’ campaign really seems to be hitting its intended target.”
The WebAwards selects the best Web sites in 96 industries while setting a benchmark for Web development. The sites are judged based upon innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use. This year, Web sites from 33 countries were considered.
One of the competition judges, commenting on the Do Something Amazing Web site, noted, “For another product, I would hate this site, [because] it violates so many basic rules of Web design, but for this client ... sweet. This shows the design firm really understood the product, the target audience and how to sell it. This is the one, and only perfect 10 I have given, no one else has deserved it.”
The site’s newest initiative lets airmen upload personal videos highlighting the amazing things they do on a regular basis. The best of these videos are posted on the Web site.
