If someone signs a military contract, and has things in their past that they did not tell the recruiter and these things came out, could the contract be breached and could the person face discharge? Things meaning jail-related or anything suicidal and it happened as a minor?

Thanks, Ted

Yes it can and often does come out at a later time. When someone enlists in the Marine Corps, they undergo a background check to determine suitability for a security clearance. When you fill out that security questionaire (SF-86) it is processed by contractors working for the FBI. They have the ability to pull any police or medical records they see fit. If it is found that you lied about eligibility you can and will be processed out with the possibility of facing up to five years in confinement and/or a $250,000 fine.

Your best bet is to be completely honest with your recruiter. Depending on the seriousness of the offense, oftentimes it can be waived.

Usually in every recruiting office they have a sign hanging that tells you the possible punishements/fines for fradulantly enlisting, or making false official statments.
