I am a student in high school who is looking into joining the marines. One reason I want to join the Marines is for their NOTC Scholarship. Dont get me wrong, I want to serve my country and be the best that I can be along with serving in the best branch of the Military, but I need the money for college. I come from a not so financially secure family, and the money from the scholarship will help me achieve my dreams of getting into the military and then into law enforcement. I like to think of myself as smart when it comes to school and I normally get A-A+ grades. My question is my parents dont agree on whether or not to let me enlist at the age of 17. My father joined the Army when he was 17, but he wound up dropping out because he believed it was too tough for him. He has now convinced my mother not to sign the papers allowing me to join, even though she was set on allowing me to join before he convinced her. Since I graduate high school when I am only 17 and I want to go into college immediately, is there any way that I would be elegible for the scholarship without my parents signature while I am only at the age of 17?
Thank You for your replies and your help. futurecop101

Are you talking about the NROTC (Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps) scholarship? If so, then there are some important facts to consider. Every branch has the same program just a different name. Also, unless you get a full ride from ROTC, they usually don't start paying your tuition until your Junior or Senior year of college. Ad for the whole parents thing, if they won't sign, you will have to wait until you are 18. It is a simple fact of life that you can't always get what you want when you want it.

You do not need your parents permission to do college or NROTC. Here is a link that gives you all you need to know and shows available colleges. https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/eligibility.cfm#eligibility

You only need your parents permission to join the service itself which is not what you do with NROTC.

Here is what is required of you if you accept a scholarship. Your freshman year is free. You incur a debt after you start your sophmore year. However if you decide not to join, you have the option of repaying the money.
