My mother works at DuPont, and she sent me a link to an article on their new Body Armour.. http://www2.dupont.com/Media_Center/en_US/daily_news/june/article20080617.html

Tell me what you think.

Grandpa, help me with this....isn't a problem of body armour that when there is a fire situation the body armour melts into the burnt skin? Seems I read that.
I'm asking because I genuinely want to know.

And if it is, is that problem been resolved yet? I love the idea of 3 layer stopping a bullet and 11 layers stopping trauma and injury. Our troops need all the help they can get for protection. They deserve the best.

I hate to admit I don't know, but I won't BS you. One of the major issues that I am familiar with is manuverability. In relation to your question, if we can move better/easier then we can get out of the fire quicker, thus not having to worry about melting Body armour. I realize this doesn't answer your question the way you expected, but at the moment it is the best I can do.

After a fast google, it appears that the melting thing is just a rumor. I can not find anything to substantiate that belief. I have seen one thing that says it does not melt at all, but the sight is an opinion sight, so, there is not way to confirm its facts.

do a keyword search for the word "melt".

The issue of melting is about "Under Armor" shirts. The last I was told is that we are not allowed to were them on patrols because they melt in fire and it is difficult to remove to treat injuries.

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. You've helped make this Grandma feel better. It worried me.

You can't wear Under Armor on patrol? That sucks and a half! I really like mine, and it is great on hot days. Wow, back to cotton for the hot days that you actually have to be walking/running. Fun...
