Please assist as my son (18) is due to sign-up this weekend. He is VERY interested in special forces, but I'm certain he'll need to select outside as well. Please assist with the jobs that have the best enlistment bonuses.

Don't encourage him to sign up for a MOS based soley upon how much of a bonus he could potentially get. That is ridiculous. He should sign up for a job that is going to interest him and enjoy doing for the next 4+ years. Plus, he has to make it through Basic and AIT before he gets the bonus anyways. Why don't you ask a recruiter?

Agree, but prior to sending the message understood that several job options would need to be made. I've now learned that only one choice can be made. If the recruit is unsuccessfule in training, the NAVY will place him/her based on their needs. My logic was: If you had TWO EQUAL CHOICES, and one had a significant bonus ... well, the proper choice would be to accept the job with the best benefit (in this case - BONUS money). I appreciate your input!

I concur with CrimLaw. I don’t think it’d be worth the few extra $$ to have to spend an entire enlistment working in a field you don’t really want to be in. My advice…choose a rating/field that he’s interested in and/or can use to get a job after the Navy. Or, if he chooses to go to school during (and after) the Navy…a field that will give him more credits toward a degree…and thereby spend less money for school.
