hello im not in the service at all, i graduated high school in 2004 got on the hometown fire department the fall of that year, thats what im doin. I may not be well liked here cause im really opposed to this war from an academic perspective (logical analysis of the sources I've studied). What brings me here is the opportunity for honest open discussion between people with different ideas. I don't think there is enough of it in this country, and the nation as a whole would benefit from more of it. If you watch the media you get largely a one sided perspective and the debates end up in shouting matches. I think that atmosphere is rather counter productive, and sets a poor example for people watching from home (we disagree so we're enemies). I saw an article, Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/09/army_homeland_090708w/

My view is that this is a major step in the direction of America becoming a police state. With economic hard times surely ahead, and a war that is becoming more unpopular every day, is it possible this could be used against dissenters should there be social unrest. Is it possible that the powers that be are making efforts ahead of time to crush opposition? Again I'm just being frank about my position hoping for open discussion not trying to enflame anyone.

If you watch the media you get largely a one sided perspective ...

And you expect to see a balanced perspective here? May as well go to the NRA's forum and look for a balanced discussion on gun control.

Suggestion: Quit watching TV and go practice fighting fires.

Minnisota: yes your freedoms are in jeopardy when the military's 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team works with NORTHCOM who's sole purpose is working with law enforcement which breaks the Posse Comitatis Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.
