Hi All

I'm brand new to this forum, just joined a few minutes ago, and thought I should throw my question out there to see what is everyone's tips/suggestion/advice is on becoming an officer with the USAF. I considered joining the Air Force after high school but that plan did not go through due to a former girlfriend.

I graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Marketing in Dec. 07 and now I have been reconsidering joining the AF again because I want a change of career. Currently, I have a great paying job with a CPA firm, but my passion for number crunching isn’t there anymore.

My question is, what steps do I need to take in order to become an officer. I have been researching other forum, but I haven’t found a clear answer. If possible, please start from the basic such as who to go see and talk to, what tests do I need take, etc. Should I visit a recruiting office?

Thanks in advance!

Should I visit a recruiting office?

Yes, that should be your first step.

Possible Win / Win. Just one AF career field that may benefit from strength of your number crunching experience, but offer you a great change with very diverse duty opportunities:

Whatever you do, if you become an officer, know that you are a LEADER first and don't become a careerist. Duty first, then accolades if you deserve them.

Just sayin'.

Seeing as no one wants to answer your questions...

First, Yes, you need to speak with a recruiter. Do not go to their office, just call them. Tell them that you want an OFFICER recruiter. Do not talk with the regular folks, only the officer recruiters. The normal guys and gals will tell you to enlist and then try to get in as an officer, and it simply does not work that way (maybe 2% of the time it does)

Once you get to them you can apply through them. Honestly if you did not get a 3.8 GPA in your college studies your chances are slim. It is possible if you got atleast a 3.0, but it is very difficult (Technically they will take a 2.0 gpa and up, but they have SO MANY people applying that they do not even read the applications of people with low GPAs). The Air Force is meeting it's officer recruiting needs through ROTC and USAFA, so they do not take many people like yourself.

IF you have a specialty, like Doctor, Nurse, Lawyer, or Chaplain, then they will take you more readily. Also if you choose to go back for a MA or MBA then you can get into ROTC while in that program, and once you graduate you can go right in through the ROTC program. This last one is a real win win if you want to further your education.

Good luck and God Bless
