Not sure if this is the wrong place to put this or if there is a right place to put this. Question i have any would appreciate any opinions on the matter.
My question is about Child Care in the military. I'm married and have two children, my daughter is 6 and my son is 2. My daughter goes to school for about 10 months out of the year but my son would go to daycare year round.
Question i have is why is child care so expensive. I mean for two kids in the CDC i would be paying close to 900 dollars a month and with the economy how it is right now, it isnt worth my wife getting a job since her paycheck would just go to paying daycare. That is only if she can get a job and i can get a spot in the cdc at the same time. Right now during these times its tough to tell a employer i would love to work for you but i cant start till my child is able to get a spot in daycare.
While i was stationed in hawaii for one child i paid 536 dollars on base for child care, my ssgt payed 1200 dollars a month for two children. That is insane, the ssgt ended up just getting out of the marine corps, found a job selling property and was able to work from home.
My wife wants to work, heck during these times we need her to work but it is impossible and not worth it for her to get a job if daycare on base is going to take 98% of her salary just for daycare. Why hasnt the marine corps or any other of the branchs ever thought about reducing the daycare costs on base.
I know this is just me ranting but i know there are other people out there that wonder the same thing and wish for some better cdc prices and ability to get your child into one without having to bend our lives around that. PCSing makes it hard on spouses to find work when we cant even get daycare.
