Im looking into joing the Navy but have different opinions on which route to take. My brother enlisted in Navy straight out of high school. He loves it and hates it on various days but mostly loves it. He adviced me to finish my degree (which i have no earthly idea what that will be) and then go officer but i was noticing officers dont have as many career options as the enlisted-correct me if im wrong. Im kinda in a hurry to start something with my life and college life isnt doing that. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of enlisting or waiting and going officer..without beatin around the bush to persuad one thing or the other. Straight up honestly is all im looking for!
THANKS :)

Hey girlie! I have no direct insight on the enlisted vs. officer argument. However, it might be helpful for people to know your approximate age and year in school (or how many credits, types of classes you've taken, interests/possible major, etc) in offering advice.

Enlisted
Cons- less money, less respect, more bitch work
Pros- More fun!
Officer
Cons- more responsibility, easier to ruin career
Pros- more money, more respect, less bitch work

Im a 19 year olf female. I will be a sophomore in college this fall (2009). After I finish this semester i will have 54.5 credit hours and after the year i will have close to 72.5 credit hours. I have not yet declared a major nor do I know what i want to do. Im just taking classes until something stricks my fancy enough to go through with it. Right now im pretty much just taking the basic classes to fullfil my required credits to graduate--maths, sciences, general education..stuff like that. I took a forensics class and a few psychology classes and thats about as specific as they get haha. I know thats not much help.

Why not go in Enlisted, have the GI Bill pay for your college, then go for your comission. You never know, you may like the Enlisted side.
They (Enlisted) don't call them ZERO's (officers) for nothing! :D
It takes a college degree to break an aircraft, and a high school education to fix it for them so they can break it again!

I have people telling me different things. I know its ultimantly up to me. Part of me wants to get my degree in whatever and go officer and part of me wants to jump right in and go now. Thats why I was trying to get the pros and cons of both.

You should seriously consider the Bachelor Degree Completion Program. Once you get in, you get paid as an E3 to complete college and then you go to OCS after you graduate. Here's a link with more info:

I swore in last september for the program and definitely havn't regretted it. In fact, I really wish I had heard about the program earlier.

You can go in as enlisted while finishing up your degree and then apply for OCS Some ppl want to get a bit of the enlisted life before moving up. The 2 paths are different so try both, it can only help you . My husband is currently doing the same thing he came in as enlisted , even though he has his BS , he is getting fleet experience. WHy not try it , easier to move up in rank not move down. Try a few things out and reseaaarch it and then make your choice
