Air Force Times wants to know what bases make the best grub — and which ones make the worst. Who’s got the most unique menu? Who’s got the most generic?
Bases compete to serve the best food (http://www.airforcetimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-2313379.php)

IF you get a chance to eat at Diego's "downtown" dining facilities, snag it it! Great food. For E-7s and above they have linen service at the table. You place you're order by circling menu items and dropping it off with a waiter, than they bring it to you. The steak and eggs for breakfast and crab and lobster on special days are fantastic!

Peterson AFB Aragorn Dining Facility in Colorado Springs has made several of my friends sick. I've heard countless bad stories of the quality of food in terms of health and taste, as well as bad service. Luckily I'm a married Airman, so I have never subjected myself to the food, but I hate that my friends and co-workers are forced to eat there daily.

How can a married Airman judge a dining facility that they've never been too?
I eat there all the time and have never gotten sick. What's to say that those individuals actually got sick from the dining facility and not something else. Also, if that's the case, than why was it not reported to Military Public Health or documented anywhere by medical personnel? Don't judge something if you haven't experienced it!

If you see I didn't judge anything beyond offering sympathy to my friends who complain. I simply relayed the message I've heard from everyone including my friends, my first shirt and even command chief. Does that answer your question?

Command chief from peterson and commanders alike have never complained. Just so you know, I am friends with the facility personnel, and if there are complaints they are willing to listen. They've even told me that they've been to the Airmen's council meetings at Shriever and there were no real complaints about the food or service. They also told me that if there were complaints about service or quality of food than they need to know about it. Exact dates when the individuals were there and what meal. Just have them talk to management.

I wasn't referring to Peterson Command Chief actually, but I'll drop this as I have no vested interest beyond my friendships.

I know what command chief you where talking about. Again, just have your friends talk to the managers there, all they want to do is the best thing for all. :)

Grissom ARB, Indiana always maintains an extensive menu with fantastic food. I think being a reserve base and caring for only a small amount of members gives them the ability to pay extra attention to the preparation. Extraordinary leadership, attention to detail, great customer care and a new dinning facility make for a very pleasant dinning experience. The Thanksgiving meal this weekend was amazing. From the shrimp cocktail to the glazed ham and turkey, yams, and stuffing; I could hardly walk back to the shop. If you find yourself in the corn fields of Indiana, stop by and try it.

If you are looking for "Killer Chow" you should try the Samurai Cafe at Yokota Air Base. It is literally to die from and most likely from a heart attack served either by a slice of fish smothered in trans-fat butter. Interestingly enough, Yokota was selected as Best in PACAF which doesn't instill a great sense of comfort. If you come here...watch out...it'll get you where it counts...hypertension and cholestrol.

Moron AB by far has the best chow I have had in the USAF. Great salad bar and the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever!

Many Many moons ago.....Lackland's BMT Flt 320 was terrible, Sheppard's bybilliting was horrible but got better, Grand Forks' flight kitchen was pretty good, Ramstein has decent food-Kapaun wasn't that great, Charleston is Excellent, Robins is ok. New Orleans-ok but not really all that good, Cannon is pretty decent. I still think that the AF "Aerospace Dining Facility" ha ha ha is better than any Galley or Chow Hall. You just have to go on the right day. But what do I know? I haven't been to them all.

Until last year when it closed down, the Edwards AFB Dining Facility was the best I've ever seen...it was "the place" of choice for most enlisted...and commanders who could generally ate there almost daily also.
They had a little food court set-up...the staff was great, menu selection was great...and the salad bar was the best around, including off-base.
Sadly, after the Maintenance Group converted to all-civilian, the base no longer had the enlisted population to justify keeping it open.. :-(
I'm now at Ramstein, and not at all impressed with the selection here...salad bar is just a few items and rarely fresh. breakfast is good, but the set-up is disorganized (one line for your eggs, then get in another for sides)

I spent '96-'98 at Edwards and it was a very good chow hall.
Soto Cano AB had a pretty damned good one in '92 and '93.
Sembach's in '94 was the best I've ever eaten in. Moved from Sembach to Ramstein in late '94, and Ramstein's was the worst. It got better over the next two years, however, and was pretty decent when I left there in '96.
Osan's was decent, with a great breakfast.

Sorry I missed the one at Sembach-they didn't have one at all when I was there. Must have just missed it-liked the BAS living in the dorm though. :-)

It closed not too long after Sembach's flightline side closed. For those in the dorms, it meant getting BAS. But it almost wasn't worth it because the chow was so good. But I think just about any airman in the dorms would take the money when given a choice between having a chow hall or getting BAS.
