Ok Im wondering how many Sailors agree with me that uniform regs should be modified to some extent on the Tattoo Policy. Throughout history tatoos have been a tradition in the Navy and it seams as years go by That the policy is getting more and more stringent. In my opinion, my tattoos do not affect my performance in my job or on the field during PT yes I agree distasteful tattoos are a problem, but the Navy is regulating size? Last time I checked this is my body and I can get from the top of my thighs to my neck to the the end of my sleeve line tattooed with whatever I want as long as it is in good taste and cannot be seen while in uniform. But honestly who are we to argue tradition. Google Navy tattoos , you will see as far back as the Navy goes tattooes are their and they go below the sleeve line on legs whole chests backs. Blah blah blah. I guess the point im trying to make is who is the Navy to tell me what I can and canjnot do when it comes to my body as long as it does not affect my job or professional apperance?

Ask the proponents of all the recent uniform changes. Are you one? If you are then you shouldn't be playing the "tradition" card ragarding tattoos. Dan

Ok regardless of how many times the Navy changes it uniforms, Sailors will have tattoos. As I stated before. It does not affect my work or performance as a Sailor. Yes I may be viewed as an outcast in society because of my tattoos. But does that make me any less of a sailor in uniform?

I could not care less about tattoos. I have none nor do I make value judgments about people who do. But please don't think that "Navy tradition" authorizes you to deviate from the current uniform policies. Most of yesterday's "traditions" are terrible, demeaning and serve little to no purpose. Yeah, it was fun crossing the line and CPO Initiation was something I won't forget. However, there was nothing in those ceremonies that made me a better leader or person. Whatever your opinion, ask your Chain of Command or Command Master Chief about uniform and tattoo policies. Don't rely on bloggers to help you decide what you can or cannot do. We don't sign your evaluations.

I know that it's you body and everything, but depending on your rate and what you plan on doing once you're out of the Navy, getting tattoos on your forearms may not be in your best interest anyway. Whether you do one term or retire, the Navy will only be a small portion of your life. As a PS who plans on working in HR in the civilian sector upon retiring, everything I will have done during my career will be for nothing if I get tattoos on my forearms.

I also don't care about tattoos, one way or the other. I don't care how small or large they are, where they're located, nothing. I don't know what the impetus is behind these restrictions, other than someone trying to bring a more professional appearance (in their opinion) to the force. Since they're the ones currently in power, their wishes become law. Just like the current administration and the things they want to do may become law, whether we like them or not Then, in 4-8 years, the next group changes them again.

Same theory applies to make up for woman.....
Your tats obviously affect the good order and discipline of the Navy and so you ought to consider being a Pirate.... Seriously the USN has been neutered. Bring on the wing nuts the stupid looking uniforms, the idiotic lack of leadership that has entrenched itself in our "We help the world" attitude that I either make fun of it or puke. The Navy has the bulk of Nuclear Deterrent capability which means we intend to, given the order stir fry what ever group of buttheads that decided to go toe to toe with us. That includes free micro-waving of woman children (boys and girls), pets, whales, and rare inbred protected exotic BS animal species no matter what. If you are unlucky enough to be in that area you are going to become a shadow on a wall - literally. I have no problem with that image. We are defending our Nation from the insanity that is the world and I frankly don't give a damn about what image that creates. |
