VW, I'm just commenting on the Agent's comments after the fact. How many people were carrying concealed weapons in Arizona in close proximity to the event? I don't know, but were they all being watched? No, just the one out in the open, and caught on camera. The Agent could have said, no laws were broken that we know of, other than that, the Secret Service has no comment, but he didn't. So, that's why we were all here today wasting our time discussing something we have absolutely no control over, the Media and Each other's comments on the matter!

(Not to mention my poor recollection of historical events.)

November 1, 1950, and yes President Truman was still in office.

President Truman's security detail that day consisted of 2 Secrete Service Agents and about 5 Uniformed White House Guards.

Details differ as to who done what, but the most interesting thing I found was a recollection by one of the White House Guards that President Truman slept through the whole thing!

President Lincoln once got into a duel (illegal at the time) with an Army General over honor. The General challenged Lincoln, so Lincoln got to choose the weapons. Long Broad Swords! Lincoln ultimately lost the duel as he was tall and his opponent short. After the poor fellow could barely hold up the sword, Lincoln surrendered, admitted he had dishonored the tired lad and apologized. They were close allies from there own. Fred, can you name Lincolns foe turned friend? I have no Idea as to whether this took place while Lincoln was President or was just getting into politics.

Since we both are a couple of history screw ups anyway, why dicker on the details, my story was better and you know it!

When you use hyperbole to make a specious point then it matters (to me). Not worth falling on the sword about but it matters.

I do apologize for missing the incident at Blair House you were referring to (albeit without Truman engaging in a gun fight).

And, no I do not know who Lincoln’s duel opponent was.

I changed the post, about President Truman being in the Gun Fight and I am looking up Lincoln's dueling opponent.

I wouldn't fall on a broadsword about any of this anyway. From what I gather, you have an LE background, (and your avatar reminds me of an SP I once knew), so I know what I have to say may bother you a bit. I'm looking at it from outside Law Enforcement, for us common folk. I also like stirring the pot to get people to think about what we do as a nation and why. Most folks don't know the Secret Service was originally set up to deter counterfeiting of U.S. Currency, and was later assigned to Guard first the President, then later, Ex-Presidents.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

But you do have a point with the former Presidents. Personally, I would find it funny if we revoked Jimmy Carter's passport while he was overseas.
VW, "meh, let's get rid of him", do you honestly believe Bart Simpson would attempt to assassinate the POTUS? LOL! Homer would probably try, but I think Bart would stop him, offering jelly donuts or something along those lines.
