We are all free to have our own thoughts and ideas, but I encourage everyone to let this good man rest in peace. Very rarely are commander's popular -- for a reason, because they're there to lead, not make friends. But in 23+ years of service I've never served for a better wing commander.
Well Chief, Roop will take his medicine and world-wide humiliation then go quietly into the night. Did you help him clear out his office?

Worked with him during his time as the MSG/CC at Balad.

He had good points and bad points as do all leaders.

Not sure what he did wrong but I'm sure his removal was warrented

SOMEHOW, this got all the way up the chain of command and the Col. Gen. whatever, was terminated because of it. Don't know the exact connection.

How does a squid know about this and you flyboys don't?

Some of you guys sound like you really liked the guy. Like, romantically even. Maybe he was let go for doodling his airmen? Maybe SOME of them liked it. (Cough) (Cough). . . . . . .
I met my wing commander once. Seemed like a d**k. We, in the Nav, don't share as close a physical relationship with our high ranking O's as you guys apparently.
You're confusing 2 seperate incidents and 2 different firings

What i dont get is how is he not facing UCMJ action? If you have grounds to remove someone from command i would suspect article 92, 98, or 133 would apply would they not? I mean how can someone screw up so bad you fire them, strip them of their command but dont charge them? If an enlisted guy screwed something up that bad i wonder if this Col. would have charged him?

If the guy actually didnt violate any articles and is just being fired for personality alone then they should say so. Just come out and say the Col. couldnt meet the goals and expectations of his superior, dont word it so it sounds like the guy screwed something up. WHen someone has spent their life in service to thier country its wrong for someone to lie about them in that way. Everyone understands politics & personalities play a large role in the military, so just so that.

Look I've been in the military long enough to know they don't fire a Wing CC over hurting someone's feelings. This guy must have seriously fucked something up for him to get fired. And the CSAF/SECAF, as you can expect, doesn't need any more negative attention after Moseley/Misplaced Nukes/Not moving on ISR quick enough/F-22 mispriorities/etc; so don't expect an explanation on this Wing CC's screwups anytime soon. But based on the history of how the higher one's rank, the easier we let them off the hook; I would bet my next paycheck that he probably deserved far more than the punishment he has received.
