Look, it’s an unpleasant fact that when things go bad in military units the commander often gets fired. Many a navy ship’s captain has been fired because their ship ran aground and they may or may not have had anything to do with the actual actions or lack of action which led to the grounding. They were in charge. You reap the successes and failures when you command a unit.

I feel pretty safe saying that guy most know somebody.

How would anyone that failed as a commander be allowed to fail again?

Did he fail again? Or are you assuming he'll fail in his next assignment? Come on! Maybe he didn't have what it takes to be a successful wing commander. That doesn't mean he can't be a great staff officer.

BTW, of course he "knows somebody". He was a freakin' wing commander! The stork doesn't just deliver these people to the front gate. They normally have a successful career behind them and someone higher in the chain who believes in them.

Hey, just hang around and make "Command Master Chief" and they'll give you a another bullshyt star inside your stripes....and whatever else assclown trinkets and perks they give E-9s nowadays.
