I think one time I stopped to count how many different uniforms the Navy wears, when I was at Misawa and I think I counted like 12 of them or something. Can anyone confirm an actual number?

I don't exactly know, but I'll ask tomorrow at work.

I will say at JFCOM, we once had 6 Navy officers in a room and they were wearing 6 different uniforms.

Here's what I remember counting:

1. White uniform
2. Blue dungarees
3. Navy BDUs (or whatever they're called)
4. Tan uniform worn by Senior NCO equivalent
5. Black uniform
6. Flight suit by aircrew
7. Blue flight suit (for what I forget)
8. Class A uniform
9. Navy dining-out uniform equivalent
10. Navy carrier uniform for aircraft maintainers
11. ?
12. ?

Something ridiculous to that effect - who knows. Chances are I coulda done something more important with my time instead of trying to figure it all out

Don't forget there were two versions of the white and black (they called it blue) uniforms -- the "cracker jack" with the pullover smock, the kerchief, and the bell bottoms; and the version with the straight-cut pants and the button dress shirt.

I think they're phasing out a lot of the uniforms, but I don't know which ones. They recently introduced a new service uniform for E-1 thru E-6; it's a khaki shirt with black pants. And they have a new utility uniform for all ranks (E and O) that's cut like the BDUs but has a dark blue pattern.
