Default More Troops to Afghanistan.

Dear Mr President,
Within days of your trip to Copenhagen to fight for Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics. Eight U.S. Soldiers desperately fought for their live at two separate remote outposts high in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan. Like Chicago's bid they lost, but not the opportunity to bask in the glory of gold medals and adoring fans, They lost the opportunity to live the rest of there lives and bask in the cheers from there wives, children and other family members meeting them as they return home. Mr President please consider General McChrystals request. This is the original war on terror. This is where in the caves on the dark desert nights the evil men planned the attacks on our beloved country. Lets send the troops and fight them there so we can continue to preserve the freedom of this great nation.

Very respectfully

They need to send in 150,000 more troops in addition to the 62,000 already there to fight this war.

We already outnumber the Taliban 12 to 1 and can't make any progress. Do you really believe another 40,000 troops will do anything besides increase the American bodies that are coming back in bags?

Heartily agree.
Previously posted but applicable to your discussion:

As a Vietnam and Desert Storm vet, I must say that the "Rules of Engagement or ROE" have always been the 800 lb gorilla in every foxhole, rucksack, ship's con and cockpit of our fighting men and women during war.

In Afghanistan, they, (the ROE) demand that we fight with "The Marquis of Queensbury Rules" while our opposition gives no quarter. Our forces are told "Don't bomb this." "Don't shoot that." Watch for white flags, schoolhouses, cemeteries, hospitals, civilians, mosques, shrines, churches, red crosses, red crescents, UN convoys, friendlies, etc., etc. Additionally don't risk civilian casualties, or break contact with the enemy if there is a high risk of collateral damage.
.
The opposition blows up or slaughters everything and anyone with a coldblooded ruthlessness that boggles the mind of civilized citizens throughout the world. Decapitation, maiming, outright mass murder. They have no "ROE". They hide behind shrines, skirts, children, pregnant women, grandpas and grandmothers. They indiscriminately murder their own people, their own policemen, village elders, children, women, and old people. They have no mercy, no scruples and no honor
.
Once the opposition obtains or becomes familiar with "Our" ROE he hides behind or occupies all the untouchables in the ROE. The mosques, hospitals, schools, civilian villages, shrines, white flags, friendly uniforms, etc.. For the grunt or leatherneck on the ground or the pilot in the sky the threat of making a mistake within the ROE causes confusion and hesitation and results in their death, in many situations.

Our military is developed around force multipliers... air-power, artillery, tanks, missiles, night vision, state-of-the-art drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, all designed to supplement our lean forces on the ground.

The inability to call in our much vaunted and much needed air-power or artillery power in any necessary situation ties the hands of our ground fighters and denies them the force needed to survive. Denies them the multiplier they were taught and trained to depend on and use when they are in the sh..!

Take away the force multipliers and you have to beef up the forces on the ground. There in the mountains of Afghanistan we have kept the forces to the very minimum (lean), and now we are taking away their force multipliers.

The tragic result of this has been disastrous for our troops on the ground the past month and the mounting, horrendous American forces' death toll is directly attributable to our "pulling our punches" not supporting artillery requests, and lessening the use of available airpower because of the "New" ROE.

So our four stars on the ground are asking, no, pleading, for more boots on the ground to make up for the restrictions on use of "force multipliers". The delays in our political leader's response to these requests along with the more restrictive ROE causes the ratcheting up of the danger and the threat our young warriors are facing each and every moment they remain in contact with the enemy.

Admiral Mullen, General McChrystal: WADR, the ROE changes should be deferred until the ground forces are sufficient to fight the war from a level battlefield. Continuing with a prematurely revised ROE unfairly endangers our warfighters.

For our political leaders: Enough already! Make a decision! Honor your promises and commitments! You wanted this job, so Man-up. Do not let any more American fighting men and women suffer and die because of political wrangling and persistent procrastination. Do not pull another Vietnam tango on us. Get in, get out, or get out of the way.

Actually, um, no, we shouldn't send more troops. On the contrary, we need to pull all of our troops out of that nasty place and regroup for our next battle (Iran/N.Korea/Russia/etc.). We are throwing good men after bad and good money after bad in this situation.
