The reason why black was removed for the ACU pattern is because under use of NVGs, black shows up quite easily (which is not good when trying to avoid detection at night.) In my opinion the current ACU pattern isnt bad. My infantry unit currently in eastern Afghanistan hasnt had any problems with it. On a few dismounted patrols that have seen us climbing mountains, we often have lost sight of another element because of the ACU pattern blending in. My only gripes with the current uniform are that it fades too easily and that the velcro wears out quickly on the FRs. All I ever hear is the pouges complaining how a bad uniform it is and how it doesnt blend with anything. If some of the people who complain about the uniform actually left the wire, they would see that it isnt a bad uniform or camo pattern.

Go back to the BDU/ACU concept! I'm fed up with constantly purchasing new uniforms. If the Army really wanted to know what we thought, they'd get rid of that infernal beret FIRST!!

The funniest part about this whole discussion is that 99% of those making the most noise about it have never been (nor will ever be) close enough to a bad guy for their tiype of camo pattern to matter.
Leave it be already, does it REALLY matter?
