Retirement, what are your thoughts on this?

So as soon as the unit returns from deployment there was a mad rush out the door by NCOs and Officers as well dropping retirement packets. So the trend in the battalion is that certain SENIOR NCOs and Officers....don't have to report to work. They're not utilizing personal leave time (this is a fact, not speculation, verified by BN S1).....they just don't report to accountability formation, workcall, company events etc (FACT: One W03 returned from deployment on torch to prepare for retirement, never reported to place of duty ONCE from 1 June - end of August, yet was not authorized to begin clearing until 1st week in Sept. He was not on leave.) while a JUNIOR NCO (E6) w/over 20 yrs TIS was written up for missing an accountability formation. Another E6 while attending an ACAP workshop in preparation for retirement was contacted via cellphone and ordered by SFC PSG to report back to work immediately and yet another E6 section sergeant is expected to work daily while an E7 in the unit has a full time second job since June yet is not authorized to begin clearing untill mid October. The situation with the inequities was pointed out and basically the answer was "the BN Cdr does not require officers to tow the line but the BN CSM ensures standards are met by NCOs (or at least the JUNIOR NCOs". My question, does anyone know of an Army Regulation that ifferentiates as such between officers/enlisteds and Sr/Jr NCOs? What are your feelings on this? Do you feel that even if three soldiers have ALL given 20 yrs or more, each has attained different ranks either commissioned or warrant officer, Sr. NCO & Jr NCO that the amount of time/consideration given each to prepare for transitioning to the next phase of their lives should be based on the rank they've attained? Why or why not?

RHIP? yeah I see that happening too. As a junior NCO who am I to tell a chief that he should be at work to ensure tech aspects of our operations are in line? There's no use in even dealing with this situation. It has become so commonplace that it will soon be a recognized military tradition... oops my bad RHIP. It already is an established tradition.

Just to clarify, I'm not condoning it, I'm simply saying that it happens and has been happening for way longer than we've all been in the military (combined). Not likely to change any time soon.
