Post 'Global War on Terror' done

Well... the phrase is done anyway if the House Armed Services Commttee has their way. The issue is the phrase and how it translates into the budget. From the article --

A memo for the committee staff, circulated March 27, says the 2008 bill and its accompanying explanatory report that will set defense policy should be specific about military operations and “avoid using colloquialisms.”

The “global war on terror,” a phrase first used by President Bush shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., should not be used, according to the memo. Also banned is the phrase the “long war,” which military officials began using last year as a way of acknowledging that military operations against terrorist states and organizations would not be wrapped up in a few years.

Committee staff members are told in the memo to use specific references to specific operations instead of the Bush administration’s catch phrases. The memo, written by Staff Director Erin Conaton, provides examples of acceptable phrases, such as “the war in Iraq,” the “war in Afghanistan, “operations in the Horn of Africa” or “ongoing military operations throughout the world.”

“You have to wonder if this means that we have to rename the GWOT,” said a Republican aide, referring to the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medals established in 2003 for service members involved, directly and indirectly, in military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the world.

“If you are a reader of the Harry Potter books, you might describe this as the war that must not be named,” said another Republican aide. That is a reference to the fact that the villain in the Harry Potter series, Lord Voldemort, is often referred to as “he who must not be named” because of fears of his dark wizardry.

Is this a war on words or smart budgetary restrictions? Will this force more accountability? Will it speed funding or will it bog it down? Discuss issues related to the "globar war on terror" here.

I'm sure my 9 grandchildren can now feel the magic of this placating gem of a political correct appeasement to our enemies as they continue to drub our country through our biased liberal media. The great president of Iran is now a hero to the midget-brained liberal poltroons in the UK and the USA. We are fading fast and God help us as the USA is controlled by run and hide little good boys and girls who will tax us to death.

Makes sense to me.
The USA is still fighting "The War On Poverty" & "The War On Drugs" and there are no signs that those wars have been won.

Maybe the dummycrats learned from the past & realize that nobody is going to win a war on terror.

The DUMBASS democrats just keep getting dumber. They make me sick ! I am so tired of their political correct bullsht ! They run around the world slamming their own country and kissing the asses of the very people who want us dead and now they want to shove this crap down our throats ! I'm done with them. This is one of many longtime union members who will devote alot of time helping to get the republican party back into power .

I was under the impression that the "War in Iraq" and the "War in Afghanistan" were only a part of the "global war on terror". I guess the Dems have a different reality the the rest of us. Is the phrase the war on terror offending someone? Maybe the terrorist, but who cares what they think, I know I sure as hell dont.
