On patrol with the Blackhawks
Thursday, May 10, 2007: Members of the 1st Platoon, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry "Blackhawks" clear a portion of Bayaa, a neighborhood in Baghdad, in conjunction with the Iraqi National Police. The area included residential homes, mosques, and a stretch of small stores along a busy street. While most residents were compliant with the searches and even filled out short surveys, many of the stores had to be broken into as the owners were not in the area. Helicopters circled, mosques put out their calls to prayer, children played in the streets, soldiers talked to residents, crowbars were used to break locks...it all added up to a not-so-quiet but thankfully uneventful day.
