Father and son
I shot this video of Gen. Dick Cody and his son, Capt. Clint Cody, on Feb. 9, 2008 in Afghanistan. It was one of Gen. Cody's last trips to the war zone as Army vice chief of staff before he retires in August. Gen. Cody connects with soldiers more intimately than any general I've seen, but the visit to see Clint was probably the part of the short trip he was looking forward to the most. It was a few days before Valentine's Day and Gen. Cody delivered to Clint a huge, shiny pink package sent from his mom, Vicki. In the 17 hours we were at the base in southeastern Afghanistan, the two men ate their meals together, sat up late talking and bantered like brothers. They, along with Clint's older brother, Tyler, share a military legacy of flying the Army's Apache attack helicopters in battle.
